NY Giants in 2007: Luckiest Team in NFL History
In week 17, the Giants took on the patriots. I actually rooted for the Giants so that they could shatter the Patriots' record. Ironically, they did beat the New England team, but not until the Super Bowl.
They beat the Bucs in their first playoff game. That's a given, though; the Bucs sucked then.
Then they play my team, the Dallas Cowboys, coming off of a 13-3 season and with home field advantage. They lost twice to us that year.
They also got a win in the playoffs. That's where the Giants had their first stroke of luck. Tony Romo threw an interception in the last seconds of the game in the end zone. Giants got lucky and advanced.
Then, they got the Packers in the NFC championship. Some more luck rolled their way and they got overtime. Of course, Brett threw his final interception as a Packer in that overtime to give the Giants the win. Again, the Giants advanced to the Super Bowlโto take on none other than the patriots.
Next came the biggest streak of luck in Super Bowl history.
Manning somehow escaped getting sacked and randomly threw the ball down field. David Tyree caught the luckiest pass in history on his helmet, of all things. They go onย to be Super Bowl champions, making me sick that I actually preferred them winning over a fourth Patriots title.
There was the luckiest post season any team will ever have.
And as a Cowboys fan, I think that it should have been us in that game. Brett Favre never did win in Texas stadium and would not have beaten us. We would have beaten the cheating Patriots; those rings should be ours.
In the end, the lucky ones won.
