Five Fights That Would Truly Rock
Well, I was inspired by Tim’s article. I thought it was very well written. I would like to pose a few more fight possibilities that could be very interesting.
To me. Maybe to you too.
5. Shane Carwin vs. Jeff Monson
Shane KO’s everyone in the first round. I must admit I was really surprised by how he handled Gonzaga. So he’s a tough guy: let him fight one of the toughest in history and see what he’s made of. If he can beat or KO Monson, then he should get a title fight right away.
Jeff is VERY experienced and extremely strong. His short arms cause him problems, but he is very capable of taking the fight to the floor.
On the mat, he would destroy Shane. He’s simply one of the greatest Jiu-Jitsu players in the world. Recently, he won the Abu Dhabi World Submission Championship in the unlimited weight class.
At first, you might think this isn’t a good test for Shane but I think if you really want to see what this guy is made of (rather than gifting him everything like Brock Lesnar), let him fight a really tough guy in The “Snowman” Jeff Monson.
My money is on Monson. Shane is extremely impressive so far but be careful about crowning him prematurely like Brock. Brock is champ and gets no respect because he has like four fights.
Shane is working his way up the way a man should and earning a lot of respect along the way. Let him fight Monson. If he wins, then let him fight Mir for the Championship (Mir is gonna toast Brock).
My prediction: Monson by Submission in third round. He will not look pretty, though, that’s for sure.
4. Nick Diaz vs. Nate Diaz
Brother vs. Brother. How great would that be? Just the thought of watching them beat the crap out of each other for 15 minutes is a thrilling prospect. I think it would actually be a great fight to watch. I know I wouldn’t miss it.
They are both excellent Jiu-Jitsu players, so they would either look like a human pretzel for 15 minutes or make it a stand-up war, which would rock indeed.
I definitely think Nick would win, but I’m sure Nate would give it everything he’s got. Who wants to lose a fight to their brother on PPV? Heh.
Nate has a chance; Nick is slowing down a little bit. I wouldn’t say it was a great chance, but he would make it a fight. Could be very exciting. Seriously, would you not want to watch that fight?
My prediction: Nick Diaz by TKO in second round. Nate would give up all his gas in the first round. Doesn’t matter, though, because the results will be overturned when they both fail their drug tests after the fight.
Dana will get pissed and threaten to drop them both (secretly he will be buying weed from them).
3. Ryan Bader vs. Matt Hamill
This intrigues me. If Bader is as deadly as he appears he should beat Hamill. Hamill, however, is the best wrestler Bader will have ever faced in his entire life.
I don’t think there is much difference in raw strength although I think Matt would have to improve his cardio.
If Hamill can come in great shape (good cardio) he will win. Bader will give him what for though (I see a lot of blood spilled in this one), especially if they keep it standing.
I’m sure Matt wont be stupid, though, and will take Bader right to the ground where he would be dominant.
Then again, would he? Bader is a strong man and fights at a very fast pace. Hamill is much more methodical. I don’t know who that benefits, but it seems to me that if Hamill could weather the early storm he would be in a great position to beat Bader up.
In the end I really don’t know; that’s why it interests me so much.
My prediction: Hamill by decision. He would take him down and GP him weakly for the whole fight. (if he was smart) If they keep it standing then I still say Hamill by KO in third round. Hamill’s experience and growth as a fighter will be the difference.
2. Charles “Krazy Horse” Bennett vs. Leonard Garcia
Okay, I picked Garcia because I haven’t seen him since the Huerta fight. I think he would match up well with Bennett and we could be looking at another long war.
I have a feeling it would go the distance, and I have my reasons. I also see it ending quick and violent, I have my reasons for that as well.
Krazy Horse can hit hard. I think he hits harder than Roger, so there is a chance for a quick KO, as Garcia doesn’t seem to hide his chin. One of the reasons he doesn’t Hide his chin is that it seems to be made of cast iron.
Roger hit him with everything, including the kitchen sink as Joe would say, and he was still standing. Leonard Garcia can take a punch, but can he take one from Charles?
Please don’t get me wrong. I don’t think for a minute that Bennett is a better fighter than Roger. Not even close.
However, he has KO power and extremely unorthodox mannerisms and attacks. If Garcia leaves his chin out he will get put to sleep.
If he fights smart though and moves in close land a few strikes and then get away. Hit and Run so to speak, he could beat Bennett no question.
Garcia did lose to Cole Miller: embarrassing, and he beat Jens Pulver. Bad with the wiry skinny BJJ specialist but good against the aggressive stand up fighters.
In the end, I think it would be an incredible fight and I would just be filled with utter joy to see both these guys in the ring again, even if its against each other, heh.
My Prediction: Bennett by KO in second round. He might have been able to do it in the first round but his antics take up too much time. Garcia has a chance though if he can avoid getting hit the way Roger hit him. Charles would KO him for sure if given the same opportunity.
Just FYI, Leonard Garcia was apparently arrested in March 2008. Allegedly he was involved in a large cocaine distribution business. Not good. But hey, maybe they could stage the first MMA fight in an actual prison since that’s where these two guys seem to end up, a lot.
No. 1? Well, I suppose you expect to see some amazing match up here at No. 1. Lets see…
1. James “The Colossus” Thompson vs. Brock “Megapunk” Lesnar
I can just imagine your reaction at that suggestion. Stupid? Impossible? Hopeless?
I say exciting as anything ever seen before. If Thompson comes into the fight in the same shape he was in when he fought Don Frye he will kill Lesnar.
Lesnar has never fought anyone even remotely close to the size, strength, and raw ability of a James Thompson.
Laugh if you like but if you stop and think about it, it could be an epic fight.
Sure, James could get KO’d, but I don’t think Lesnar has KO boxing skills yet. He couldn’t KO Mir and he had plenty of chances. If he cant KO Mir, he can't KO Thompson. Period.
They have similar styles that could result in an all-out brawl of epic proportions. Forget defense, these guys would just stand somewhere in the cage and hit each other in the face about 1,000 times till the bell rings.
If by some miracle the fight makes it to the second round Lesnar will start to gain an advantage, probably take it to the ground so he doesn’t have to get whaled on anymore.
While I find James’s wrestling skills to be far, far below those of Lesnar- He is big and strong enough to power his way out of trouble, either back to his feet or a slow methodical submission.
If you don’t think James has a submission game then you are seriously mistaken.
He is certainly not as fast as Brock but he hits harder and he could probably take Brock's little punches all day long. Brock does not punch to KO people, he just punches to hurt them.
He hits too fast to gain the power he needs behind his punches. While it confuses his opponent and can cause panic, he will not KO the guy. He’s no Shane Carwin.
What I would hope to see in this fight is both of them charging across the mat at full speed: BAM!
Each of them with a hand behind the other’s neck while Brock peppers Thompson with a billion fast little strikes, and Thompson responds with multiple haymakers that break Lennar’s nose and jaw.
Despite the damage Lesnar fights on in the second round trying to take James to the ground. Its too late though- they are both sweaty, tired, and slow.
Lesnar succeeds twice in getting Thompson to the ground and does some GP damage earning points. James is too strong, though, and gets up and the hammering begins again.
My Prediction: Assuming James has a proper camp, I pick James Thompson to win in a first-round TKO. Lesnar will verbally submit as he finds himself stuck up against the cage unable to even fall as James holds him there, beating his face into a bloody pulp.
Lesnar is never heard from again except for a 30-second submission loss to Fedor.
Okay, the floor is open and I’m ready for my beating- just remember I have a really hard head. Really.
