Celtics-Magic: House, Rondo Fuel Boston's Game Two Victory, 112-94
Nearing the end of the third quarter in game two of the Eastern Conference semifinal matchup between the Orlando Magic and Boston Celtics, the ball was worked around in Orlando's offense, opening up a wide open three-point attempt by Rafer Alston with 4:05 left in the third.
The ball went halfway in, only to be propelled back out of the hoop as it fell into the hands of Boston.
Then, as Boston moved the ball down to their offensive side of the court, the Celtics worked it around and earned a contested three-point attempt by Eddie House with 3:50 left in the third.
House drained the three as the momentum continued to build in Boston's favor.
This was the story of the entire game for the Magic in their 112-94 loss Wednesday night to the Boston Celtics.
If you watched game one, Orlando went 35-for-81 from the floor and 9-for-27 from the arc, as they blew a 28-point lead, but still held on for a 95-90 victory.
You would have never believed that this was the same Orlando team.
Is it Orlando's fault though? Or is it Boston's fortune?
Boston came into game two with one goal—defense. Boston wanted to lock down on the Orlando Magic, while also making shots of their own.
Well, it's safe to say they made that happen.
The Celtics held the Magic to just 8-for-20 from beyond the arc, and a mere 30-for-56 from the field.
The Celtics also were in need of better play from both Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo. They received that in the form of Allen's 22 points and Rondo's third triple-double of the playoffs (15 points, 11 rebounds, 18 assists). Together, Allen and Rondo were 14-for-34 shooting scoring 37 points between them.
However, Boston didn't rely on just the superb play from Allen and Rondo. Their bench also stepped up. Arguably their most important bench player, Eddie House, fueled the furious Boston bench. House scored 31 points off the bench contributing to the 43 points Boston had from their bench.
Orlando's JJ Redick is continuing to make a name for himself in the starting position.
Tonight, he scored 15 points, going 4-for-6 from downtown, Rashard Lewis was the high point man for the Magic netting 17 points, and Pietrus had another stellar night off the bench with 17 points.
Hedo Turkoglu and Dwight Howard struggled to make shots going a combined 9-for-21 from the floor, scoring 14 and 12 points, respectively.
Orlando will need to adjust to Boston's aggressive defense and shot-making on Friday night in Amway Arena.
