Stanley Cup Will Return To Detriot

Evan BaileyMay 4, 2009

The Stanley cup will return to Detroit.

There are four main reasons: Pavel Datsyuk, Marian Hossa, Heinrick Zetterberg, and Johan Franzen.

Combined, they had 137 goals and 197 assists this season.

These four players, spread out over two or three lines, are probably the best offense in the NHL.

With Datsyuk and Zetterberg's great two way playing, they are always around the puck. Hossa's goal scoring ability makes him very hard to stop, and Franzen playing in front of the net hitting them in is great.

Also, the defense led by Lidstrom and comprised of Rafalski and Stuart help along with Kronwall hitting people all over the place; they are hard to beat.

Detroit also has good players backing up Lilias and Lebda, and Chris Chelios, the oldest player in the NHL, still makes a good contribution.

The only position I worry about is in goal. I like Osgood, and I think he is and under-rated player, having been on the team during three Cups not to mention quite a few play-off shut-outs. However, he is a good player who is very capable of making very bad mistakes. Ty Conklin is a decent Goalie as well, but he is old.

The Red wings are a power house team that always gets beaten down by analysts and commentators because of all their European players. If you disagree, just watch the Stanley Cup playoffs from last year and you will see that nine out of 10 of the NHL  analysts and commentators are down on the Wings and were only giving credit to Pittsburgh.
