Who's Your Daddy?: Barcelona Dismantles Madrid 6-2

Josep Vernet-RieraMay 3, 2009

If there were any doubts about who's the world's best team, then today they have surely been removed. If you're wondering if it is Chelsea's victory against a mediocre team that I'm going to talk about, then think again.

Barcelona literally dismantled Real Madrid, after an incredible performance crowned by six goals!

As I was grabbing my lucky scarf, people were saying that it would be a close encounter and that Madrid would probably win, since they had better results in their latest La Liga fixtures.

As I was eating my popcorn, I choked completely when Puyol left Higuain all alone in the penalty box, and he scored the goal to make it 1-0, with a (let's be fair) beautiful header. Oh my, we'll lose the championship.

Suddenly, Barça was playing Barça.

The team attacked like there was no tomorrow, and soon, Messi would lob the ball to Henry, who finished the play off with a clinical finish!

Three minutes after, Xavi crosses the ball to Puyol, and there you go! Casillas, nailed to the floor, watched the ball sail by, as Puyol kissed his arm band in honor of Catalonia.

Then Messi puts it away, after which Madrid reduced the deficit to one goal.

Suddenly, it wasn't looking that nice for the blaugrana. Oh wait! Barça just scored another goal.

Another two shots hit the back of the net, and there you go — a humiliation accompanied by an incredible performance.

The offensive trio was perfect. Playing with a lot of lobs and through balls that stunned Madrid's defensive line, the first goal by Henry was a perfect example of that style of play.

The midfield commanded the game from the beginning, and Real could not put more than five passes together — a great performance that deserves the championship.

The defense was weak at the beginning of the game, with the big mistake by Puyol that led to Real's first goal and another blooper by Dani Alves, which could've ended up in the back of the net, if it wasn't for a reflex save by Valdés.

Valdés had a great game with some spectacular saves, which really showed that he's good enough to defend Barça's net.

All in all, it was a fantastic Saturday afternoon match.

Still, what does the football world learn from this?

Barcelona is the best team in the world, whether you like it or not. Say what you want about Chelsea, but Barça did not need hundreds of millions of euros to build a team, which by itself shows the value of the work of Txiki Berguistain (Barça's GM) and Joan Laporta (Barça's chairman).

Although many Catalans criticize the work of Barça's managing staff, the truth is that it is the only team that pays for its sponsorship. Unlike other top European sides, who are being paid millions by sponsors.

You can argue what you want about Hiddink's managing skills.  I am not going to question them, nor am I going to say that Guardiola is better. The truth is, Barça plays the football that Abramovich wanted to see, namely the so called "Joga Bonito."

When was the last time that Chelsea dominated a rival in an away match?  It's been a long time, hasn't it?

Even if Barça doesn't take the Champions League cup back home, they are the team that has played the best football during this season. They won 5-2 against the French champions, 4-0 against the German champions, and 6-2 against the (former) Spanish champions.

Do I need to say more?

The thing is, Barça does not adapt its game to another teams—other teams adapt to Barça. Hiddink had to draw up a new scheme. And lets face it, Barça deserved more than a draw.

I guess every coach must be going, "If we could be like Barça."
