NBA Draft 2013: Power Ranking Top Pure Scorers in Class
The 2013 NBA draft is loaded with elite scoring talents.
Usually it takes even future 20-point-per-game performers a while to adjust from college to professional ball. However, several players on this list are so skilled that they could give whichever team selects them an instant scoring boost as a rookie.
Here are the top pure scorers in the 2013 class.
5. Dennis Schroader (PG, Germany)
Schroader sits at the bottom of this exclusive list now, but he could leapfrog several scorers by the time the draft rolls around. He stole the show at April’s Nike Hoop Summit, and his stock has been on the rise ever since. The explosive German's potential is through the roof.
4. Shabazz Muhammad (SF, UCLA)
Scouts knock Muhammad because scoring is one of his only assets, but it’s a strong one. He averaged 17.9 points per game last season. Muhammad didn’t do so with incredible efficiency—finishing with just a 44.4 shooting percentage—but his knack for putting the ball in the basket as a mere freshman can’t be knocked.
3. Trey Burke (PG, Michigan)
Burke nearly carried the Wolverines to a national championship triumph. He averaged 18.6 points per game last season, producing a whopping 15 20-plus-point scoring efforts. The floor general would be higher on the list if it weren’t for a so-so shooting percentage of 46.3.
2. Ben McLemore (SG, Kansas)
McLemore’s scoring efficiency as a freshman was off the charts. He averaged 15.9 points per game, shooting 49.5 percent from the field and 42 percent from downtown. The Jayhawk hero finished the season with 11 scoring efforts of at least 20 points, including his outing in the Sweet 16.
1. C.J. McCollum (PG, Lehigh)
McCollum’s stat line doesn’t make sense. He scores his 23.9 points per game while shooting 49.5 percent from the field and 51.6 percent from beyond the arc. That isn’t a typo—McCollum’s long-distance shooting efficiency is nearly unheard of.
