The Ultimate Fighter Recap: Bisping Goes From Great Coach To Worst Coach
Last week the US lost a fight to a brutal knockout with a kick, and the US fighter was winning before he got a case of "foot meets head."
This week we get the pleasure of having two fights in one episode, which right off the bat tells me one of these fights are going to be quick.
The first thing I notice this year is that we don’t have one fighter who is being childish, we have a whole team this year. The US team is not even close to being a team, while the UK team is showing them up in every aspect.
I came into the season looking forward to watching the US guys in the house and watching the UK team drink each other into a pit every episode. So far I hate it when the US team is on the screen.
While the UK team is training hard and ignoring the US teams childish acts of pulling pranks on the other team, as US fighters are talking about how they very well could be a walking STD pool. This just in Cameron Dollar has been with like 70 to 80 girls, including his friend’s wife.
This also just in, Team US' strategy is to let Cameron tell the UK team about his womanizing skills. After that he cuts himself and threatens to bleed on whoever doesn’t quit.
After hearing Cameron brag about this Jason “Two Face” Dent, (please let this be his nickname) he simply walks away and says he isn’t here to make friends. Awesome Jason you are on Team US. Keyword TEAM—hence, friendship is a must.
As if Dent being anti US wasn’t enough, Jason Pierce would prefer to hang out with Team UK because they are cooler to be around. Well Mr. Pierce, how would you know when you don’t hang out with them? Hey maybe he is going the old saying "keep your friends close and your enemies closer…" (crickets chirping).
First fight of the night Andre Winner vs. Santino DeFranco fighting out of the lightweight division. I can sum this up just about as quickly as this fight ended. DeFranco’s takedowns got stuffed every time he went for them. Of the last takedown attempt, DeFranco got stuffed and Andre Winner ended up ground and pounding him into a ref stoppage.
I wasn’t surprised by this one. Neither fighter was overly impressive in the first fight, but DeFranco barely made it into the house. UK 2 – US 0
After the fight Bisping continues to show how much of a jerk he really he is. After the match he shouts, “It wasn’t supposed to be that easy.” Okay first you get into with a deaf guy on the show you fought on, now your picking on a guy who came back from a brain aneurysm. Way to show class Mike.
You can see the frustration on Henderson’s face about the loss. He says the guys aren’t sticking to game plans and he can only do so much. Henderson takes the next training session outside. After training Henderson talks about future match ups, upon bringing up Pierce fighting Pierce says and I quote “I don’t think I’m strong enough to win over him.”
Can coaches call for a replacement because I’m sure Henderson wants one right now. If a fighter doesn’t want to rise to a challenge he will not make it in the UFC. My prediction is Pierce is eliminated in his fight and will not grace the Fight Night card, He’s just not strong enough… oops now I’m acting like Bisping.
On the way back to the van, Dollar gives an athletic tap to Miller while he is spitting, actually he sounded like he was trying to hock up his stomach but that’s neither here nor there.
The athletic tap prompted some bickering in which they both looked like Junie Browing. Henderson comes in and tells them that they are representing the US. You can really tell at this point that Henderson is regretting his decision to coach this team.
Now for a huge shocker—the man that preaches team unity, Michael Bisping, is nowhere to be seen to help his fighter prepare. Congrats Bisping. You are now the first coach to ever let his fighter train alone.
Fight time Dean Amasinger vs. Damarques Johnson from the welterweight division. Surprisingly Bisping is still nowhere to be found. Now Bisping is the first coach to leave his fighter on fight day. Now Bisping looks like a real jerk. In one episode you go from looking like a great coach to a terrible coach by abandoning your fighter.
This fight was a bit more exciting, but Johnson really impressed me with his ground game on a take down attempt he nearly reversed it into a kimura. He had the kimura locked in but couldn’t finish so he ended up securing a triangle choke to get the victory.
So the US wins one and you could tell the mood was different in the locker room. Team US looked like a team and Team UK was upset that they couldn’t find their coach. I still don’t think a turning of the tide has taken place, but Team UK lost a lot of momentum.
