2013 Kentucky Derby Odds: Complete Run-Down of Lines for Each Horse
As the 2013 Kentucky Derby nears, let's catch another rundown of updated odds and post positions for each horse.
If anything, this will make us better prepared for when the gates open.
Just because a particular horse has appealing odds does not guarantee anything, either. According to about.com, the ultimate favorite has only managed one victory since 2008 and was winless during a 20-year span (1980 through 1999).
That said, let's dive in and check out those heavily favored to make a run at the Triple Crown.

*Odds and Post Positions via KentuckyDerby.com, current as of Saturday, May 4 at 3:30 p.m. ET
Revolutionary: Post 3, 5-1
Revolutionary is in one strong spot to get ahead early and leave everyone else in the dust.
For one, he enters with good momentum this season and has impressive pedigree from War Pass. Provided with great acceleration and top speed, Revolutionary is capable of setting and controlling the pace throughout.
Second, jockey Calvin Borel is among the best in the sport. Having collected over 5,000 wins during an illustrious career, Borel also has three wins at Churchill Downs to his credit.
Verrazano: Post 14, 9-1
Since March began Verrazone has won two races: Tampa Bay Derby (Grade II) and Wood Memorial (Grade I).
And although neither of those races was the length of Kentucky, Verrazano has the ability to outrun down the stretch. Furthermore, Verrazano's odds gain notoriety with legendary jockey John Velazquez on board.
Velazquez won the Kentucky Derby in 2011, is closing in on 5,000 career wins and rode Verrazano in all four of the horse's wins this year. The chemistry here is simple competitive advantage.
Orb: Post 16, 8-1
Orb is the most dangerous of challengers lined up on the outside.
Leading into Churchill Downs he has two key victories at Gulfstream Park, one of which was a Grade I race (Florida Derby). Possessing great stamina to hang with a fast pace from the start, Orb's even better advantage comes with jockey Joel Rosario.
Rosario has amassed over 1,500 wins for his career, not to mention two Triple Crown third-place finishes (2011 Belmont, 2012 Preakness). Combine Rosario's experience with Orb's talent and expect them to push the tempo.
In short, doing so will force everyone else to match pace early and sustain it throughout, which is Orb's advantage.
