The Bungles Strike Again: Another Draft Wasted for Cincinnati

Nick SignorelliApr 26, 2009

Since winning the division in 2005, then losing in the playoffs to the Pittsburgh Steelers, who eventually won the Super Bowl, the gap between the Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh has steadily grown every year.

Every year, the Bengals take players that have character issues, while the Steelers take players that have a "team" first attitude.

Does any body else think this is just a coincidence?

Once again this draft, the Bengals again became the Bungles.

Selecting sixth over all, the Bungles selected troubled Tackle, Andre Smith.

Smith had a rough time at the NFL Scouting Combine this year.  Leaving without telling anyone he was going.

Prior to that issue, many had Smith possibly going as the first pick of the draft.

In the third round, the Bungles took Michael Johnson, the DE from Georgia Tech.

As described by ESPN, Johnson has first round talent, but his poor work ethic dropped him to the fifth round.

When you have a team that is built the right way, players stay out of trouble FOR each other.  The leadership in the locker room breeds no contempt, because all of the players are working for the team.

When you don't have that kind of locker room, which the Bungles don't, problems flourish.

The Bungles locker room is filled with players that do not want to be there.  Bringing in two players that are not going to help the problem, are only going to make it worse.

Unless Marvin Lewis can find a way to turn the locker room around, and start getting leaders out of his stars, both of these players could be on their way to being busts.
