Kentucky Derby Odds 2013: Favorites You Can Count on at Churchill Downs
The Kentucky Derby is a nice mix of favorites and long shots. Verrazano is stealing the majority of the headlines for the favorites, but he certainly isn't the only favorite worth considering.
With the Kentucky Derby less than a week away, it is time to start dialing in the favorites.
Below, after the odds, we'll take a look at three who have the chance to win and the talent that makes them locks to contend.

Verrazano (4/1)
Todd Pletcher's Verrazano has been unbeatable. Literally. This colt has yet to lose a race.
He's only had four starts, but they've been impressive as he took the Tampa Bay Derby in March and followed that up with a win in April's Wood Memorial.
The victory at the Wood Memorial came against a talented field, but Normandy Invasion charged at the end and Verrazano won by less than a length. It is also worth noting that Verrazano had a nice finishing kick in that race as well, and the gap didn't shrink because he was fading.
This horse is the logical favorite, but he certainly shouldn't be viewed as a lock.
Orb (6/1)
Florida Derby winner Orb can make a strong argument to be the favorite in this race.
In fact, it wouldn't be shocking at all to see Orb as the favorite when the race begins.
He is currently sitting atop the National Thoroughbred Racing Association's top three-year-old poll.
Meanwhile, Orb is starting to generate some buzz and, as Evan Hammonds of BloodHorse.com tells us, this horse has been impressive in his workouts at Churchill Downs.
Dating back to last November 24, Orb has won his last four races. That included besting fellow Kentucky Derby hopeful Revolutionary in that November 24 start, and of course the impressive Florida Derby win.
Goldencents (15/2)
With Goldencents looking strong, trainer Doug O'Neill has a chance to become the first trainer to defend his Kentucky Derby title since Bob Baffert pulled off the trick in 1998.
O'Neill has to like his chances.
Goldencents has won four of his six starts, and there have been some quality wins in there.
He enters the Derby off of a Grade 1 win at the Santa Anita Derby, which last year's Kentucky Derby winner, I'll Have Another, also won.
But that isn't the only impressive accomplishment for this horse. He has three graded stakes wins and that includes besting fellow Kentucky Derby contenders Mylute and Itsmyluckyday.
Also, let's not forget, this is the only horse in the field who can boast of being at least partially owned by the coach of college basketball's national champions.
I don't know what this means for Goldencents' chances in the Derby, but maybe we should all jump on Rick Pitino's hot streak.
