Horses to Watch For
Orb
The Florida Derby winner is one of the favorites to win the 139th Kentucky Derby on Saturday, and it's certainly no surprise why.
After a trio of disappointing finishes as a two-year-old in 2012, Orb has finally hit his stride, winning four straight races dating back to last November, including three first-place finishes in 2013, all at Gulfstream Park.
Orb has racked up 150 Kentucky Derby points thanks to his dominance at the Florida Derby and the Fountain of Youth a month before that. Boasting an impressive winning streak, Orb is a serious threat to win on Saturday.
Verrazano
You can't get much better than four wins in four career starts.
Verrazano, a horse under the watch of well-known trainer Todd Pletcher, has been stellar coming into this May's Kentucky Derby. His most recent victory came at the Wood Memorial Stakes in April, but before that he earned a first-place finish in the Tampa Bay Derby
Verrazano has looked incredibly comfortable running towards the top, leading from wire to wire in his previous four races and will be ridden by 2011 Kentucky Derby-winning jockey John Velazquez, who sat atop Animal Kingdom two years ago.
Revolutionary
Another horse trained by Todd Pletcher, Revolutionary is coming off an impressive victory at the Louisiana Derby in March.
The Withers Stakes winner has won three consecutive races dating back to last December and has racked up well over 100 Kentucky Derby points in 2013. This is a horse that can't be counted out this weekend.
Despite a slow start at the Louisiana Derby, Revolutionary came on late and delivered a memorable finish, narrowly beating Mylute. Revolutionary isn't just a strong colt with loads of potential, like Orb and Verrazano he's incredibly hot coming into the most anticipated and at times the most unpredictable race of the year.
