Contenders to Watch
Gebre Gebremariam
Gebremariam burst onto the scene when he ran and won his first New York City Marathon in 2010, with a time of two hours, four minute and 53 seconds.
He followed that up with an awesome showing at the 2011 Boston Marathon, completing the 26 miles and 385 yards in 2:04:53—a personal best that was good for third place.
The Ethiopian national tried to top that in 2012, but succumbed to heat and exhaustion, dropping his time down to 2:22:56.
With cooler temperatures expected in this one, Gebremariam will be looking to finally break through and win the Boston Marathon.
Wesley Korir
As if the University of Louisville hasn’t won enough lately, the former Cardinals star and last year’s champion will be hoping to repeat as the Boston Marathon winner in 2013.
The 30-year-old Kenyan won the 2012 event with a time of 2:12:40, an impressive feat considering the brutal weather conditions.
With two Los Angeles Marathon championships under his belt (2009 and 2010), this incredible distance runner is looking to add a fourth major piece of hardware to his collection.
He’s going to have his work cut out with such an impressive field, but if Korir can slightly improve his time from last year he’ll have no problem being in contention down the stretch.
