Adjustments Tiger Woods Must Make on Final Day of 2013 Masters

Jun 8, 2018

Tiger Woods enters the fourth and final day of the 2013 Masters with a chance to don his fifth green jacket.

But it's going to take one of the best and most clutch rounds of his career. Woods has never come back to win a major on Sunday, and he'll need to make up four strokes if he's going to catch up with current leaders Brandt Snedeker and Angel Cabrera.

For Woods to make the improbable comeback, he'll need to play as close to flawless as possible. Since he has yet to break 70 this year at Augusta, that will entail some adjustments from his previous rounds.

Here are the adjustments he'll need to make to contend for the championship Sunday.

Minimize Mistakes on Par-Fives

Winning at Augusta takes a strong blend of skills off the tee, clutch putting and finding success on the par-fives.

Thus far, Woods has not been dominant on the courses longest holes. He's doing really well off the tee. He's averaging more than 300 yards per drive. But he's still struggling to pick up birdies.

That means the mistakes are primarily happening between the tee shot and his putting game. Woods has been able to put himself in advantageous positions but has been less than accurate with his irons.

Woods can show he means business early on by putting up a birdie on the par-five No. 2 for the first time this week.

Lock in with the Putter

Woods hasn't been awful with the putter, but he's going to have to be practically unconscious to pick up the win on Sunday.

Success on the green is always a huge factor for anyone who wins the Masters. Woods has seen mixed results through his first three rounds. He's putting well enough overallaveraging 1.57 putts per hole for the tournament. But the clutch putts will be key.

In Woods' Round 3 performance, he barely missed a birdie putt on No. 2, a par putt on No. 9 and an eagle putt on No. 15.

Those weren't easy putts to make, but they add up to three strokes Woods could have shaved off his score had he been a bit more dialed in with the putter. If he starts knocking down clutch putts, look out.

More Accuracy off the Tee

Woods has been crushing the ball off the tee and putting efficiently, so what's the biggest hole in his game right now?

Accuracy.

Thus far, Woods has hit just 24 of 42 fairways, according to Masters.com. That's just 57 percent and well below the 65 percent mark the rest of the field is averaging.

That kind of inaccuracy off the tee is the kind of thing that will force Woods to get aggressive when it doesn't really benefit him. If he's able to hit more fairways, even if it means sacrificing some of his distance, he'll be in a much better position to shave some strokes off of his score.

If Woods is able to make these adjustments, he could very well pull off one of his most impressive major performances of all time.
