2013 Masters Leaderboard: Breaking Down Day 3 Scores

Ethan GrantJun 8, 2018

With the entire field on the course at Augusta, updates should be pouring in for the rest of the day at the 2013 Masters.

The group on the course includes leaders Angel Cabrera, as well as big-time names Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose—the top-three players in the world all aiming to capture a green jacket this season.

While some are out on the course for third-round action, a few guys are already in the clubhouse at Augusta, watching the rest of the action in the cool temperatures while contemplating what needs to be done to finish with a better score in Round 4.

Among those in the clubhouse is Tim Clark, fresh off a five-under 67—currently the low score of the day.

With coverage already underway on CBS and the rest of the tournament promising to be one of the best in the 77-year history of this historic major tournament, take a look at some of the scores from the early part of the tournament and how they might shape the rest of the weekend.

Tim Clark: (-5, 67, -3 total)

Clark did most of his work early, threatening to post the lowest score of the tournament (66 by Marc Leishman and Sergio Garcia in Round 1) through his first seven holes.

Clark had five birdies through seven, and consistently put his ball both in the fairway and the green, putting together a streak of four-straight one-under shots from No. 4 to No. 7.

In the process, Clark has stormed back to three-under for the tournament after a lackluster first two days, and was two bogeys on the back nine from being just one shot off the pace before Day could even get on the tee box to answer.

Still, Clark is three-back, and his strong tournament should not be ignored heading into the final round.

Tianlang Guan (+5, 77, +9 total)

After a promising start to the tournament, Tianlang Guan has fallen into the familiar category that amateurs often do at Augusta.

The 14-year-old, now famous for being the youngest person ever to make the cut at the Masters, put up a clunker on Saturday, posting no birdies and five bogeys to drop back to the bottom of the current card (only Keegan Bradley has a higher score).

The fairytale had to end sometime, and Saturday afternoon ending up putting Guan out of contention for good in this 2013 major. However, he'll still be playing for pride and personal satisfaction on Sunday, and it should be fun to watch how he responds to the lack of pressure after a poor Saturday score.

Bubba Watson (-2, 70, +2 total)

On the opposite end of that spectrum, Watson started at four-over on the day and moved back into an outside shot at cracking the leaderboard on Sunday with his first solid round of the tournament.

Watson actually had six birdies on the day, but was plagued again by a double-bogey on No. 11 and two other dropped shots on holes No. 13 and 18.

After being in danger of missing the cut on Friday, it was nice to see Watson play better (though not his best) on Saturday afternoon. He'll need a big effort to be anywhere close to doing anything other than handing out a green jacket on Sunday, but that shouldn't stop us from celebrating the enigmatic character that is Bubba Watson the rest of the way.

Matt Kuchar (-3 thru 17, -4 total)

History doesn't side with Matt Kuchar at majors.

As noted by ESPN's Justin Ray, Kuchar has had a tough time finishing the final two rounds at major tournaments in his career:

On Saturday at Augusta, he's starting to find the kind of rhythm it takes to win a green jacket.

After a hot start (three birdies), Kuchar faltered a bit down the back nine, but he managed to respond after bogeys by turning around and making and answering birdie within the next two holes. That kind of response wins major championships, and Kuchar is just two strokes off the pace.

With Saturday still in play and Sunday right around the corner, things are heating up at Augusta.
