Although most of the NBA games this weekend were blowouts, there were two that made up for the lack of competition.

On Saturday, the Chicago Bulls/Boston Celtics game was a great match-up that featured two of the league’s best young point guards, Derrick Rose and Rajon Rondo. Rose and the Bulls, the seven seed in the East, pulled the upset over the defending champion Celtics in a 105-103 overtime thriller. Rose was the key for Chicago, scoring 36 points, tied for the most ever in a playoff debut, and dishing out 11 assists. Rondo was just as good, scoring 29 to go with nine rebounds and seven assists.

Sunday, the Orlando Magic and Philadelphia 76ers played a close game that was not decided until Andre Iguodala hit a game winner with 2.2 seconds left to give the 76ers a 100-98 victory. Iguodala finished with 20 points, eight rebounds and eight assists. The Magic were led by star center Dwight Howard who played true to form with 31 pints and 16 boards.

Other than those two games and the Spurs/Mavericks game, which was decently competitive, the first weekend was comprised of blowouts. The Hornets lost by 29 points to the the Nuggets, the Blazers lost by 27, and the Heat were beaten by 26. Tomorrow will be a TNT doubleheader with the Bulls/Celtics game two followed by the Mavericks and the Spurs. Here’s to hoping for some good basketball.
