Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is (Total £142.01, Up £117.01)

Ronaldo Assis de Moreira Apr 21, 2009

Now I know how it feels to be in the results business, and it’s not all that comfortable a place to hang out.

For the first time so far since running this post, there was a total wash out. £33 was flushed down the toilet as Vitesse shocked AZ Alkmaar with an unexpected away win at the Eredivisie Champions, Feyenoord and FC Twente refused to score goals, and Almeria ended Osasuna’s recent upturn.

No doubt, it hurts being proven wrong, but crying over spilled milk is also a complete waste of time.

Fortunately, a bumper week of football kicks off again on Tuesday night, and we aim to jump straight back on the gravy-train.

In a change to the norm, there is a full round of midweek Spanish fixtures starting on Tuesday night, with Real Madrid hosting Getafe at the Bernabau. The visitors will try and draw encouragement from their last away match, an impressive 1-0 victory at Sevilla.

That result looks to have been the exception to a general woeful set of away performances this season, with Getafe losing seven and drawing five of their previous 12 away matches.

By contrast, after a run of 15 wins in their last 16 La Liga matches, Real Madrid are looking a picture of consistency and it looks impossible to see beyond a home win.

A second home win should be chalked up by Chelsea when they host Everton on Wednesday night at the Bridge. In a dress-rehearsal of the FA Cup final, Everton will be huge second-favourites.

The Merseysiders are well aware of the outstanding home record of the Blues as well as that they have yet to beat any of the Big Four this season in the league.

Backing both Real Madrid (2/7) and Chelsea (4/9) to both win.

Next we head over the Holland, and Tuesday night’s match between Steve McClaren’s Twente and NAC Breda. Having lost four on the bounce, and without a goal in five matches, NAC are in free-fall.

By contrast, Twente have had an overall outstanding season, with the Dutch Cup proving the club’s last chance of silverware this year.

We are backing Twente to score first (4/11) and to win the tie (1/2).

And for the final wager, after the bashing Dimitar Berbatov has received from Manchester United fans after his penalty miss, combined with Sir Alex’s continued defence of the Bulgarian, it would appear Sod’s Law that the number nine will score against Portsmouth on Wednesday night at Old Trafford.
