Final Four 2013 Game Times: Breaking Down What to Watch for After Tipoff

Patrick ClarkeJun 7, 2018

After 64 games, a handful of bracket-busting upsets and a plethora of thrilling finishes, we've arrived at the Final Four.

Louisville, Michigan, Syracuse and Wichita State will battle it out for the right to cut down the nets one more time and hoist the title on Monday night inside the Georgia Dome. But first, they'll play a pair of national semifinals games on Saturday night.

Below we'll take a closer look at each matchup and when you can tune in to watch each one.

Can the Shockers Pull Off One More Stunner?

Ninth-seeded Wichita State is the highest seeded team to make the Final Four since VCU in 2011, and the first No. 9 seed to reach the national semifinals since Pennsylvania in 1979.

Gregg Marshall's Shockers have knocked off No. 8 Pitt, No. 1 Gonzaga, No. 13 La Salle and No. 2 Ohio State to reach the Final Four in Atlanta, but will have to dispose of the tournament's top overall seed in Louisville on Saturday night in order to keep on dancing into the championship game.

Wichita State has never reached the national championship game, losing to UCLA in its last and only other Final Four appearance in 1965.

Covers.com has the Shockers as 10-point underdogs on Saturday, and for good reason. Louisville has won 14 straight games and boasts an elite guard in Russ Smith, who's averaging 26 points per game on 54 percent shooting thus far in the tournament.

Smith is also recording over three steals per game for Rick Pitino's Cardinals, leading the way when Louisville switches to its fearsome full-court press.

Beating Louisville isn't impossible, but it will take a massive, mistake-free effort from Wichita State this weekend for the Shockers to advance to Monday's title game.

Will the Orange's Zone Keep the Wolverines at Bay?

Syracuse's vaunted zone defense has claimed four victims thus far in the 2013 NCAA tournament, and will look to add another to the list on Saturday night.

The Orange are allowing just 45.8 points per game through four tournament wins, but will have to ratchet up the pressure against Michigan, a team that is averaging 78.8 points per game through four tournament wins of its own.

To say Syracuse's defense has been suffocating this spring would be an understatement. The Orange held their four opponents to 28.9 percent shooting from the floor and 16.1 percent shooting from downtown on average.

Syracuse's disruptive zone is also forcing 16.5 turnovers per game in this tournament, which has allowed for easy baskets on the other end for Michael Carter-Williams and company.

But even Syracuse's defense will have trouble containing Michigan's Trey Burke, who was named AP Player of the Year on Thursday. Burke is averaging 15.5 points and 7.8 assists per game in four tournament wins, and is one of the more dynamic talents in college basketball despite the fact he's just a sophomore.

The Vegas oddsmakers have Burke and the Wolverines as 1.5-point favorites over the Orange this weekend.
