Michigan Shocks No. 1 Seed Kansas in OT with Comeback Win

All-American point guard Trey Burke willed Michigan to an 87-85 instant-classic, scintillating, unbelievable overtime win over Kansas and a spot in Sunday's Elite Eight. 

It appeared as though Kansas had things wrapped up late in the second half, but Michigan reeled off a 14-4 run in the final two and a half minutes and Trey Burke hit a 30-foot dagger with four seconds remaining to send the game into overtime. 

Burke, who finished with 23 points and 10 assists, and freshman Mitch McGary, who finished with 25 and 14 rebounds, subsequently carried the Wolverines to the victory in the extra period.

John Beilein's squad will take on either Florida or FGCU for a spot in the Final Four.

Despite trailing at halftime, Michigan had to be feeling positive. Burke had zero points and Kansas shot 67.9 percent from the field, yet the Jayhawks led just 40-34 going into the locker room. 

While he wasn't scoring, Burke dished out five assists, allowing McGary and Nik Stauskas to combine for 20 points to keep the Wolverines close.

But Jeff Withey (eight points, five rebounds, two blocks) matched McGary down low, Travis Releford filled up the box score and Ben McLemore broke out of his recent slump with 10 points in a five-minute span: 

McLemore, who finished with 20 points, continued his offensive array of monstrous dunks and silky smooth jumpers in the second half, while the Jayhawks abused Michigan inside to extend their lead to double digits. 

That's where the lead stayed for most of the second half, but Burke scored eight points in the final minute to tie things up before Naadir Tharpe missed a potential game-winner.

In overtime, Burke kept up his offensive assault, and with the Wolverines up two, Tharpe missed another shot at the buzzer, letting the Wolverines survive the Game of the Tournament. 

Twitter Reaction

Just two minutes into the game, Elijah Johnson delivered a blow—seemingly on purpose—to Mitch McGary's nether region. Bleacher Report's official Twitter account gave us a still-frame look at the flagrant foul:

Everyone else, meanwhile, was simply bewildered that Johnson escaped with nothing more than a flagrant-I call. Here was ESPN's Jay Bilas' take:

It looked like the Jayhawks had sealed the win late in the game, but Michigan put together a thrilling comeback in the final minutes. CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein summed it up:
