NCAA Tournament Schedule 2013: Can't-Miss Schools to See During Friday's Action

John RozumJun 8, 2018

When Friday's action begins, there are a few powerhouse schools that no one can afford to miss on the NCAA tournament schedule.

With so much hype and recognition going toward the stronger mid-majors this year, and rightfully so, that has taken some discussion away from impressive major programs. After all, Gonzaga receiving a No. 1 seed, Saint Louis a four seed and VCU a five seed is great to make the tournament a more level playing field.

A byproduct of their success, though, makes these schools even tougher competitors starting on Friday.

Indiana Hoosiers

Earning a No. 1 seed, Indiana won the Big Ten regular season which is one of the toughest tasks in college basketball.

It's easily the deepest conference regarding top-heavy talent, as eight schools finished with 20-plus wins. However, the Hoosiers stand well apart with players such as Victor Oladipo and Cody Zeller making them one of the most exciting teams to keep an eye on in the country.

Although Indiana takes on No. 16 seeded James Madison, we'll catch a brief glimpse of Bill Crean's offense, its ability to dominate inside and rely on multiple players to score.

Georgetown Hoyas

When the 2013 Georgetown Hoyas come to mind, so does the outstanding play of Otto Porter: He averages 16.3 points and 7.4 rebounds per game.

Receiving a No. 2 seed, the Hoyas finished second in the Big East during the regular season. Despite getting bounced early from the conference tournament, the Hoyas' ability to dish the rock around to score efficiently and then get back for defense warrants a deep run.

Factor in the depth of the Big East and Georgetown is battle-tested on Indiana's level. Although it's not as rugged defensively from top to bottom, the Hoyas will challenge shots, generate turnovers and control the tempo.

Florida Gators

Given the shallowness of the SEC, it's reasonable to overlook Billy Donovan and the Florida Gators. Earning a No. 3 seed, Florida won the conference regular season title but got upset by Ole Miss in the conference tournament.

Still, that doesn't mean Florida can't make a strong run. Donovan is one of the best coaches around and his team knows how to score. Ranking No. 8 in the nation with a 48.4 field-goal percentage, the Gators get points from five players who average nine-plus per contest.

Include nonconference wins over Marquette and Wisconsin and Florida will fight through defense, but also keep pace with a high-powered offense.
