NCAA Tournament 2013 Brackets: Top Seeds Who'll Benefit from Easy Road

Dan TalintyreJun 8, 2018

All 64 teams in the 2013 NCAA Tournament will be gunning for a Final Four berth and then a tournament victory. However, the reality is that only a handful of teams have what it takes to triumph in March Madness compared to the rest of the field, and they'll likely battle it out between themselves.

One of the biggest keys behind that fact is scheduling, and the somewhat easy road to the finals that the top seeds have.

Yet even amongst that, several top seeds have easier schedules than others and will benefit greatly in the tournament as a result of that.

Read on to see who they are and how far they'll go in March Madness 2013.

Miami—No. 2 seed, East Region

The Hurricanes are at the bottom of the East bracket, and appear likely to have a tough matchup against the Illinois Fighting Illini in the Round of 32.

However, if they can get past that game, Miami could find itself with an easy run to at least the Elite Eight given the upsets that could happen around them.

Butler is no lock to beat Bucknell, and neither is Marquette to beat Davidson. Thus theoretically, Miami could find themselves in a Sweet 16 matchup against either the No. 11 or No. 14 seed in the region—which would be a pretty easy road into the last eight of the tournament.

I'm not 100 percent they have what it takes to beat Indiana (or even Syracuse for that matter), but Miami's easy road makes them a lock for at least the Elite Eight.

Ohio State—No. 2 seed, West Region

The Buckeyes are a very strong team in the West this year, and have one of the best runs to the Final Four out of any team in the tournament.

An easy second-round game should be followed by a relatively simple third-round one also, with Ohio State's first real test coming in the Sweet 16 against New Mexico or Arizona. But with Belmont a surprise chance against the Wildcats in the first round, even that is no guarantee.

Should the Buckeyes win through that game, their Elite Eight opponent could very well not be the top seed in Gonzaga, perhaps the weakest out of all the No. 1s.

Pittsburgh, Wisconsin and Kansas State could all beat the West's top seed before that game, which would therefore play further into the hands of Ohio State in their bid for a Final Four spot.

Florida—No. 3 seed, South Region

When it comes to softest roads to the Final Four, it's hard to go past the Florida Gators, who have perhaps the easiest run of them all.

UCLA is no lock to beat Minnesota in the second round, which means the Gators could well be playing the No. 11 seed in the Round of 32 rather than the No. 6 seed. Either way, they'll certainly be playing on a team that exhausted a great deal of energy to get through their opening game.

From there, their Sweet 16 game is shaping as either San Diego State or Georgetown—both of which should be relatively simple wins for Florida. Florida's powerful offense will be too much for a mediocre Georgetown offense and is simply too strong across the court for the Aztecs.

That sees Florida advance into the Elite Eight against someone like Kansas or Michigan. Whilst that game certainly isn't going to be easy, Florida's road to that game had been relatively straightforward up until that point, and that could be a key advantage for the Gators.
