UFC 158: A Fan's Guide to the St-Pierre vs Diaz Fight Card

Anthony FuscoJun 8, 2018

UFC 158 is a stacked card that is definitely a can't-miss.

It will contain loads of talent and interesting storylines to follow that will have fans on their toes at all times.

Since the event is taking place in Montreal, there is a good chunk of Canadian fighters who are willing to put on a show on home soil.

Not to be outdone, the war of welterweights will also be taking place. Featuring names like Jake Ellenberger, Nate Marquardt, Carlos Condit, Johny Hendricks, Nick Diaz and Georges St-Pierre, how could you not be entertained?

Diaz will also look to become the newest champion as he faces off against his rival St-Pierre.

There has been a war of words between the two and they will have the opportunity to back them all up when the cage door is closed and locked.

Action and intrigue are abound as this affair nears.

Here is a fan's guide to the upcoming action.

Tons of Canadian Content

1 of 3

The event will be held in the beautiful city of Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

The UFC is always mindful of allowing fighters to compete in their home country and this time is no different.

Kicking off the Canadian connection will be Yves Jabouin. He'll be followed by the likes of John Makdessi, Antonio Carvalho and Jordan Mein. The latter of those three names will be making his UFC debut.

It doesn't end there as Patrick Cote, Nick Ring and Mike Ricci all have opponents as well.

And who could forget St-Pierre in the main event?

How's that for the Canadians, eh?

Welterweights Highlight the Main Card

2 of 3

There are some very prominent welterweights in the main card. The implications of their wins and losses will send shock waves through the 170-pound ranks.

The heavy-handed Ellenberger will look to continue his winning streak as he takes on former Strikeforce champion and UFC returnee Marquardt.

The co-main event will feature "The Natural Born Killer" Condit and top contender, Hendricks.

Condit would like to get back in the win column after his loss to the current champion and "Bigg Rigg" is ready to finally secure himself a long-awaited title shot.

Stockton bad boy Diaz will get a shot at dethroning the Canadian champion when the two meet in the main event of the evening.

It is sure to be a hotly contested battle between two willing combatants.

GSP and Diaz Finally Get to Settle Their Beef

3 of 3

The trash talk has continued to escalate ahead of the showdown between these two men. The recent conference call and interviews only made things more intense.

GSP has been chomping at the bit for a shot at Diaz for a while now and all the talking and insults seems to have him incredibly fired up.

Diaz has seemingly pushed St-Pierre further than any previous opponent. So much so that the French Canadian has gone to the dark place in his head.

What that dark place is, we may never know. But one thing is certain: It has been a while since we have seen the champion this motivated to dispatch his foe.

If the anger and passion is genuine, then expecting a spectacular finish on Saturday night may be in the realm of possibility.

Just like the poster says, this time it's personal.
