Fight Night Round 4: The Heavyweights

Rick WilliamsApr 13, 2009

If you're a fan of boxing games, or a fan of video games in general, the Fight Night series is a must have.

The next edition in the series, Fight Night Round 4 is set for release at the end of June for the X-Box 360 and PS3.

In building excitement for the game, the Fight Night producers have decided to announce the roster in stages, according to weight class.

First up, the heavyweights.

In my opinion, the first weight class revealed is sure to leave boxing fans unsatisfied. There are five all-time greats in the list consisting of Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, Lennox Lewis, Mike Tyson, and George Foreman. A must for any credible roster. But, that's about as good as it gets.

Then there is James Toney, who is a great boxer, but does not hold anything like the resume of an Evander Holyfield, Larry Holmes, or even Sonny Liston. Those are just a few fighters who were omitted that would easily be ranked above Toney.

Then there is the head scratcher—Eddie Chambers.

If you have never heard the name, I wouldn't blame you. Chambers was put on this roster before he won his only notable bout against Samuel Peter.

Chambers is ranked by most publications as the eighth ranked heavyweight, currently. That is nothing to brag about considering the sad current state of the heavyweight division.

How do you have Chambers and leave out either Klitschko brother? Not to mention all the past greats. Chambers would be a questionable choice if there were 40 fighters in the heavyweight division, let alone seven.

I understand that there are restrictions on certain fighters, contract issues, and a challenge of combining past greats with today's relevant stars. However, with so many great fighters left out of this one weight class, I am sure a lot of people have already been turned off on purchasing this game.

One can only hope that there are improvements, because $60 is a lot to spend when you can't recognize half of the fighters.
