USARacing Returns To Langley Speedway
In a press release put out today by USAR Media Relations, the announcement was made that USAR Pro Cup series would return to the legendary track in southeastern Virginia.
The USARacing Pro Cup series may be remembered by some as the Hooter's Pro Cup series until Hooter's departure from the title series role following the 2008 season.
The Langley Speedway 250 is slated to take place on May 23rd, marking the series' first return to the track since May of 1998 won by then-rookie Scott Wimmer over series veteran Johnny Rumley.
“We are so pleased to add Langley Speedway to our Pro Cup schedule,” said Jimmy Wilson, Vice President and Series Director.
“Langley Speedway and this part of Virginia are very rich in racing heritage. Demographically it’s a great part of the country to position the Series. General Manager Bill Mullis has a great staff at Langley Speedway and a great facility for racing. It’s a perfect fit for Langley Speedway and the USARacing Pro Cup Series.”
“Langley Speedway is very grateful for the opportunity to be part of the 2009 USARacing Pro Cup Series,” said Bill Mullis, General Manager. “We’re very excited about the ability to bring this level of racing back to the ‘Grand Ol’ Dame of Racing’, Langley Speedway, and to the great fans here in Virginia.”
There are also conversations ongoing between USAR and track officials. They are in negotiation about the track's open date on July 4th, and are anticipating an announcement to be made very soon.
This is great news for the track, formerly a regular stop on the NASCAR Grand National schedule, who with the recent addition of Mullis to the ownership and management team looks to return to past prominence. The addition of USAR alongside the two Rolling Thunder Modified races adds strength to an already impressive 2009 schedule at Langley Speedway.
