How NBA Fans Are Destroying the League
I loved the NBA, I grew up watching Michael Jordan dunking all over everybody, I loved the "best basketball league in the world."
Now I'm sick of it—not of basketball, of the NBA.
The NBA doesn't have a thing on any other league.
Of course they have star players, but one just gets sick of it. The zombie-filled-up arenas, the stubborn selfish players, the disloyalty of the players to their team, the lack of commitment, everything. I'm just sick of it.
This started when Seattle was thrown out of the party by some hillbillies with full pockets.
Oklahoma City got a franchise and destroyed a tradition. All those years thrown down the gutter. A team that was part of a city, a tradition, not a dynasty, but a team with a loyal fan base.
Oklahoma City Thunder? Please, that sounds more like an MLS team name.
Where is the tradition, the pride? This thing of going where the money is, it is going to destroy the league and they know it. Do you expect to have noisy crowds? Thrilled fans?
No, you're going to have some zombies dressed up according to the GM's pleasure.
Remember Miami? All dressed up in white. It looked more like an asylum.
Where's the atmosphere? I remember the time when Madison Square Garden was noisy during the playoffs and Chicago went crazy with the classic: "6-6 MICHAAAAAEL JOOORDAAAAAAN"
Now an NBA crowd is sterile, untouched, commanded by the tyranny of the jumbotron; "make some noise!" and the fans go crazy, "DEFENSE" and everybody starts shouting "D-FENCE."
What would happen to the fans, if they did not have the jumbotron?
People don't go to a basketball game anymore, they go to a show, that has cheerleaders, gives away nice NBA merchandise, has some great food, and in between there are even some guys playing basketball.
One of my friends once went to LA to watch the Lakers play the Celtics. You'd expect a great atmosphere wouldn't you?
Well, he was dissapointed with all of it. The fans were quiet throughout the whole game. Of course, there were some chants as tasteless as "lets go Lakers, lets go," the typical "D-Fence," and they cheered when Kobe went for a nice dunk.
Go to Europe, go to a Euroleague game. Everyone is chanting at the top of their lungs, cheering for the most simple basket, jumping all over the place whenever there is a huge play.
Search for the real basketball fans on YouTube and you'll be amazed.
Where's the passion for the game? Where did it go?
NBA fans make the games horrible.
Do not trash those who play the games, the problem lies with those who attend the them.
European fans will bring the big stars back to Europe. Players want passionate fans, not synchronized zombies.
Really, fans in the US are the worst fans, they are actually destroying the NBA.
