North Carolina Tar Heels "Ty One On" Crush Spartans To Win National Title
In front of a record championship game crowd of 72,922, mostly Michigan State fans, the North Carolina Tar Heels blew the doors off of Ford Field.
Roy Williams' talent laden squad jumped out to a 17-7 lead in the first five minutes of the contest. All five starters scored in this early flurry.
Spartans' coach Tom Izzo, had figured out how to take down the defending national champion Kansas Jayhawks and No. 1 seeds Louisville and Connecticut, but he had no answer for the stars from Chapel Hill.

North Carolina junior guard Wayne Ellington continued his hot shooting hitting his first three shots from behind the arc. Ellington, who was named the Final Four's most outstanding player, finished with 19 points in the game.
The Tar Heels used tenacious defense and precise shooting to take a 55-34 lead into the break.
The first half outburst by North Carolina is the most points ever scored in the first half of a championship game and the 21 point lead is the biggest half time deficit any team had ever faced.
Point guard Ty Lawson was once again outstanding. He was named the player of the game, leading UNC in scoring with 21 points.
Lawson had seven steals at the half, and finished with eight in the game, also a championship game record.
Senior forward Tyler Hansbrough got what he and his teammates returned for. Hansbrough will be leave college basketball as one of the most accomplished players in the history of the NCAA.
The four-time All American finished with 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
Michigan State had the backing of an estimated 60,000 Spartan fans, but it was North Carolina's defense that spoke the loudest.
The 2009 national champion Tar Heels harassed State all night, forcing 21 turnovers and held the Big Ten champs to just 40 percent from the field.
Reserve freshman Ed Davis was a beast all night off the bench for North Carolina. He finished with 11 points and eight rebounds in just 14 minutes.
Senior Deon Thompson added nine points in the total team effort.
On the day that the Tar Heels' most famous alumnus, Michael Jordan was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame, "Roy's Boys" didn't disappoint.
The win is coach Roy's second championship in six season as the head coach of North Carolina and the school's fifth overall.
Final Score: 89-72.
Michigan State was led by Goran Suton who had 17 points and 11 rebounds in his final game as a Spartan.
Kalin Lucas and Durrell Summers had 14 and 12 in the loss.
Suton and Lucas joined Hansbrough, Lawson and Ellington on the all tournament team.
