Peyton Sellers Looking to Make Mark at Texas
Are you looking for a new driver to root for in the Nationwide series? Are you looking for a new non-Cup driver to root for in the Nationwide series? Well then may I suggest Peyton Sellers for your consideration.
Sellers, a driver relatively unknown outside of the Virginia and Carolina short track circuit, is set to make is Nationwide series debut this Saturday during the O'Reilly 300 at Texas Motor Speedway.
Many will remember Sellers as the driver who was wrecked coming off Turn Four on the last lap of the Toyota All-Star Showdown at Irwindale while leading. This is soon going to change.
Twenty-five year old Sellers has made it to the big show, and he did it his way all the way. Racing for Cardinal Motorsports, of which he is a part-owner, Sellers qualified 23rd with a time of 29.478 seconds in a back-up car.
Your probably wondering, "OK, so he is a 25 year old part-owner of a Nationwide team, why should I pay attention to him?"
Sure his rise to the NASCAR ranks has been relatively quiet outside of Virginia, but that is all going to change after this weekend.
Sellers became the youngest Whelen All American National Champion in 2005 after a season with 10 poles and 15 wins.
He then moved onto to the Camping World Series where he earned the Rookie of the Year title followed by three more top 10 points finishes.
One consistent factor from those years will be the man on top of the pit box for Sellers, his brother H.C. Sellers who is also directing the efforts in the shop.
You may ask: "Well how is he going to be able to compete in his own equipment against teams like Gibbs, Childress, and Roush?"
Well he already proved at the All-Star Showdown that he can compete for wins against JGR in his own equipment when he battled Joey Logano down to the last corner for the win. Not to mention before the wreck he was in line to beat Logano for the win.
This guy is what NASCAR needs. He is proof that you can still climb your way up the NASCAR ladder without a wealthy family or a close friend inside a major company. Sellers can bring back legitimacy to the NASCAR Home Tracks.
