This Just In: Jay Cutler Traded To Chicago Bears For Kyle Orton, Picks

Rich KurtzmanApr 2, 2009

As of 3:45 p.m. MDT, it was announced that the Denver Broncos have traded away former quarterback Jay Cutler to the Chicago Bears.

Included in the deal was Denver sending their 2009 fifth-round pick to Chicago, with the Broncos getting the Bears' first-round pick in 2009 and 2010, and their third-rounder in 2009 also.

Finally, there is a solution to this month-long Jay C-McD saga, but not exactly the solution Denver fans hoped for.

Kyle Orton is a mediocre-at-best quarterback, with a career 5319 passing yards, and only 30 touchdown passes compared to 27 interceptions.

Jay Cutler had over 4500 yards in 2008, with 25 touchdown passes.

Although Denver knew they could not truly get even value in a trade involving the young gunslinger, they knew they could walk away in a good position.

The Broncos got what they wanted in a starting quarterback, and if Orton does not work out, they could possibly use the 2010 pick for a QB. Also, the 2009 pick can be used on a defensive player in order to bolster a squad that was horrible in '08.

With Cutler requesting for a trade, then saying he didn't, owner Pat Bowlen had to take back control of his team and make an example of the quarterback.

The Broncos may not be a better team at the QB position in 2009, but they will be a better team overall, with one man in charge, Josh McDaniels.

At the end of the day, McDaniels got what he wanted when he started this mess trying to trade for Matt Cassel, a mediocre-at-best quarterback. Well Josh, be careful what you wish for.

Now McDaniels must prove himself and show he is a great offensive mind in today's NFL.
