Liverpool: Can They Win the Premier League?
I read an article written by a Mr. Done of Manchester Evening News and he wrote:
"It is just me, or does everyone say, since Liverpool have scored 13 goals in the three games against Manchester United, Aston Villa, and Real Madrid, that they are the best team on the planet."
Now, I'm not sure about you, but I have certainly never said that. None of my friends or family have said that (although most of them are Man United fans). I watch Sky Sports News and no one is saying that, so where did Mr. Done get that from? Answer—he didn't, he just made it up.
Anyway, putting aside idiotic reporters, and the question in the article—can Liverpool Football Club, the most decorated football club in the history of English football do the impossible, turn around the 'world's greatest team' and win the Premier League for the first time ever. My answer—probably not.
The international break that just took place (England v Slovakia/Ukraine) could not have come at a worse time for Liverpool, but Manchester United must be laughing, because they are on poor form and the international break came at just the right time.
Now, I spoke to an AFC Bournemouth fan yesterday and he said that we shouldn't count out Chelsea because they are a "great club". Well, I for one HAVE written Chelsea out because I don't believe they are good enough. Yes, the international break was great for the home nations, but bad for domestic leagues.
I asked a few friends if Liverpool can win the Premier League 2008/09, here are the answers:
"It's not in our hands, we had the momentum, but the international break may have ruined that, we won't know until Saturday."
"We have the capabilities to win all our remaining fixtures, whilst United have to draw two matches then it will be goal difference."
"I think United have too much to lose and Fergie will know that, so he will drive home the fact that Liverpool are catching up so they need to keep up."
Neil, West Ham Fan
"Of course they CAN . Whether they WILL is another matter. At the end of the season, both teams will have 83 points, and goal difference (which Liverpool lead on at the moment) will be a major factor."
Ken, Arsenal fan.
