Cynical Disaster Remedy

Chaz MattsonApr 1, 2009

The Denver Broncos are boasting that they have the phone records, where Jay Cutler says he never got the supposed calls.

Brandon Marshall is now out of action until July and could face some further discipline from the NFL office.

The league itself has incurred major layoffs this past year in trying to be fiscally responsible.

Josh McDaniels tried to trade Jay Cutler and get Matt Cassel, his guy. It didn’t happen; maybe he could trade Cutler for Tom Brady to make amends with his past and his present?

Josh also told ESPN one week ago that Jay Cutler is the guy, then said he didn’t know what the future holds. He was also spotted holding a retro Broncos jersey from the Copper Bowl collection with Cutlers name on the back of a No. 6 jersey.

It’s bad enough the Broncos are going to be forced into wearing brown-and-gold vertical striped socks on those horrid jerseys, they may actually be heading back to the future if they don’t find a remedy for Jay Cutler’s wish to be traded.

Phone wires at Dove Valley are burning up with potential trade offers to Mr. Bowlen who decides it’s best to trade his star quarterback who either didn’t get the call or would not respond.

Communication breakdown,
it’s always the same;
I’m having a nervous breakdown,
Drive me insane!

Call it the cynical hour on the Internet express, as this story has more bytes breaking into bits.

As a writer and a fan, I’m sick of covering this story, but I’m here to provide the ultimate solution.

Some may laugh, some may shrug, some may doubt, what I have is the remedy.

This isn’t some Castrol oil from year’s gone bye.

No, it is the trade to solve the leagues ills.

Now I have to admit, I want Pat Bowlen to terminate Josh McDaniels for being a fraud and not acting in the clubs best interest. It should stand up in court; it certainly would stand up with the fan base.

However, I understand Mr. Bowlen is sticking to his guns and utilizing his power and money to the best of his ability. Mr Bowlen should keep Jay Cutler, but if he must pull the trigger on a trade so be it.

So, once again, I’m here to help.

The trade I am going to mention takes three teams and two coaches to pull off, and one bold, swift move from Mr. Bowlen.

While I am a little cynical right now, as many are who have followed this situation over the course of these developments.  So please forgive my cynical thoughts in advance, I think I have a legitimate panacea to cure the current NFL ills.

The good thing is this considers some of the other ills of the league and it’s certainly something worth foddering about.

So without further ado, here is my trade proposal:

Denver Trades

Jay Cutler to Dallas along with Mike Shanahan (to be the new head coach) and Brandon Marshal and Tony Scheffler to Cincinnati

Dallas Trades

Wade Phillips to Denver to be the new D-Coordinator, Broncos promote Mike Nolan to head coach, demote Josh McDaniels to offensive coordinator. Denver also receives a couple draft picks and sends Tony Romo to Cincinnati with one draft pick.

Cincinnati Trades

Carson Palmer to Denver along with Ocho Cinco and Laveranues Coles

Now it is possible Mike Shanahan would want to keep Marshall and Scheffler with Cutler in Dallas, so Dallas might end up trading one or two of their receivers like Roy Williams to Cincinnati to complete the deal.

This trade could be the best of all worlds for all the teams involved.

All of these teams want to be and to remain contenders, so this trade does make some sense.

If Josh can’t work with Cutler, he will have no choice dealing with a more seasoned professional like Carson Palmer.

Wade Phillips appears to be a lame duck coach in Dallas with Mike Shanahan on the horizon (again). This let’s Wade do what he does best.  It also allows Josh to do what he does best. It also gives Mike Nolan another shot at running the show as a head coach.

Jay and Mike Shanahan have proven they are a great match. Keep them together.

Tony Romo might hate this as could Roy Williams, but the reality is they haven’t made Dallas a better team. It’s a new opportunity for them to start anew.

Carson Palmer won’t have a chance to win the Super Bowl in Cincinnati. Ocho Cinco is the Bengals Brandon Marshall, but this move would give him a new opportunity.  Laveranues Coles would be a good addition; Denver could ensure Cincinnati gets what they need to fill that void.

Take it for what it’s worth, this trade doesn’t leave any of these teams hanging and actually could improve all their playoff chances dramatically.

Hey, it’s NFL food for fodder to remedy this cynical disaster.
