The Cleveland Cavaliers Are No Longer a One-Man Show

Magnus JohnsonApr 1, 2009

Let's face it—up til' now LeBron James has been the only reason the Cleveland Cavaliers haven't been a terrible team. But that has all changed this year.

It took a while for people to warm up to it, but the terrifying truth has finally been recognized: The Cleveland Cavaliers are no longer a one-man show. With LeBron finally getting the help he needs on the court, the Cavaliers are better than ever, and here's why.

Mo Williams

Most people would argue that the preseason acquisition of Mo Williams is the biggest reason for the Cavs being the most successful they've ever been this year. Williams has spent most of his years with the Bucks but was picked up as a free agent by Cleveland.

In his last year with the Bucks, Mo put up 17.2 PPG, improving it this year with 18 PPG with the season not even over. He had another team USA player (Michael Redd) last year, like he has this year in LeBron James.

He had his first All-Star season this year, too, adding a whole new level of confidence to the Cleveland franchise. He is the most important side-show player on the team.

Ben Wallace

Ben Wallace has moved around quite a bit in his career. He's been in Washington, Orlando, Detroit, Chicago, and Cleveland, totaling 5 teams in a 14 seasons (that's as new team every 2.8 years).

Although he's injured for most of this season, he has been and will again be a big part of this Cleveland team when he gets back (which should be in early April, really soon). A Captain on the team, Wallace adds star power and skill to the team as he puts up some good points, assists, ad rebounds on the court.

He'll be ready soon to get back in his groove before the playoffs where he'll be a big threat to other teams.

Delonte West

Delonte West is a very good addition to this team. This year he's put up his best numbers since his Boston days back in '06.

One of the pickups to get LeBron a title, he has been more and more noticed over the years. He has 646 points so far this season, averaging 11.5 a game.

Where he's really impressive is Assists. Averaging 4 a game, he has more than 200 assists this season. He's an incredible compliment to LeBron on his quest to get himself a title.

J.J. Hickson

J.J. Hickson may not be very impressive with points, averaging only 4 a game, but he has a lot of energy and offensive aggression. In his rookie year, Hickson has an attacking spark to his game that pushes defenders back and gets him noticed.

To make up for his lack of points, Hickson moves the ball around and gets a few assists to LeBron in the process. Hickson is a promising rookie that will get some more points later in his career.

Anderson Varejao

Anderson Varejao has been improving his performance for Cleveland throughout his entire 4-year career.

He has his most PPG he's ever had so far this season at 8.7 a game, along with tying his Assists Per Game at 1.1, and continuing to be productive with rebounds at 7.2 this year, and 8.3 last year.

He's a big part of the Cavs' game in the paint and powering through defenders, making him a big part of their upcoming playoff race.

The Cavaliers used to be a one-man team. But a one-man team can't pass Kobe and the Lakers and KG and the Celtics for the No. 1 best record in the league. These players are and will continue to be an effective side show for LeBron and the Cavs.
