Mr. Cutler Goes to Town

Adam CainApr 1, 2009

The Denver Broncos announced that they will attempt to trade QB Jay Cutler.  This  comes after a falling out with owner Pat Bowlen and new head coach Josh McDaniels.

McDaniels attempted to trade Cutler for QB Matt Cassel.  Cassel was with McDaniels in New England.  Cutler has apparently stopped returning text messages and ignored attempts to repair the relationship.

So what are the possible destinations for the disgruntled signal-caller?

The New York Jets are in the market for a quarterback after the retirement of Brett Favre.  Cutler might not be the best fit in New York due to its brutal media.  Cutler is more of a big fish in a small pond after starring at Vanderbilt.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers need a pass-thrower too.  They let Jeff Garcia go after last season.  They also traded for TE Kellen Winslow, and Cutler would be another improvement for that offense.

San Francisco is still looking for someone to replace Steve Young and Joe Montana.  They have good young talent and play in, arguably, the worst division in football.  Cutler could put them over the top in that division.

Chicago has been in need of a quarterback for several years.  They would be crazy not to try to obtain Cutler.  They have a good defense and Cutler could put them over the hump in a weak division.

Detroit finished last season without a win and needs all the help they can get.  They do have the first pick in the draft, but could get an accomplished quarterback in Cutler.  This would go a long way in trying to win back a livid fan base.

New York is probably the favorite to land Cutler, but Tampa and Detroit are better fits.  No legends to follow, no giant magnifying glass on your every move, and more room to help a team.

Mr. Cutler goes to town...but which town will it be?
