Can Brett Favre Get Eric Mangini Fired Again?
The latest twist in what has become the soap opera of Eric Mangini deciding on a quarterback for the Browns involves Brett Favre. The rumor is that Mangini has invited Favre to be an instructor at training camp. He would obviously be working with Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson. Like others, my reaction when I heard this was "Are you kidding me?"
There are three reasons why this is a bad idea.
First and foremost, "Hey Mr. Mangini, This is the guy who got you fired." I don't know about you, but if I had made a decision that got me fired in my previous job, I wouldn't make that same decision again. I certainly wouldn't do business again with a guy that was the big contributor to my downfall.

Second, Brett Favre is no instructor. Mike Holmgren was famous in Green Bay for this saying "NO! NO! NO! Great throw, Brett." What that tells me is that when Favre was in his prime, he was capable of making throws that few others could. Does that make him a guru on fundamentals? No way!
Third, Brett Favre is too much of a competitor to watch the action. Therefore, the instructor gig would be short-lived and guess who would be coming out of retirement again?
Mangini wouldn't be able to resist. He would start him. I would laugh hard if he traded away Brady Quinn and he went on to greatness and Favre did a repeat of last year.
"Hey Mr. Mangini, you did this before. Remember Chad Pennington? He did quite well last year."
How would Mangini explain this to the Dawg Pound?
