Mbappé's Rollercoaster Season 🎢

Cesc "Spitter" Fabregas, "Raving" Rafa, "Rolling" Ronaldo, "Whinger" Wenger

Mary O'SheaMar 29, 2009

Look at Cesc Fabregas, gritting his teeth looking for a fight with anyone he can find.

Probably learned that in Spain, where, according to some of the tabloid media who judged by his attire, he is a member of the Barcelona Ultras.

Can you imagine? A 21-year-old young man wearing trainers, jeans, a hoodie and a jacket. Never in my life did I think an adult would be dressed like that.

I am not going to say whether or not Cesc Fabregas spat at the Hull assistant manager; only a select few people know the truth of the situation and none of them seem independent of either Arsenal or Hull.

Not that such a thing would ever stop the tabloids from judging Fabregas.

Readers of trash red tops will have by now reached the following conclusions on what happened that night at the Emirates:

  • Cesc Fabregas is an arrogant thug who spits at people. Old videos of him "spitting" at Ballack while playing for Arsenal against Bayern Munich have been dug up.

Of course, Ballack and Bayern Munich have openly stated that Fabregas never spat at Ballack, though he did sware at him. But hey, when have the tabloids ever let fact get in the way of a good story?

  • Phil Brown isn't able to cope with management. He is losing the "plot" and hasn't a hope of keeping Hull in the Premier League.

To tell the truth, I was angered with Brown over the snide remarks he made about Arsenal, but he is hardly "losing the plot." Perhaps he's over-emotional, but crazy? No.

Apparently Brown isn't a good manager, but tell me who was it that got Hull into the Premier League for the first time?

  • Arsene Wenger can't keep control of his players; they rule the roost at the Emirates.

Eeemh ... Wenger can't keep control of his players but Ferguson has "passionate" players? Although the "passion" is reserved for the English players of course.

Check tabloids.

Not content with dragging Arsenal and Hull through the mud last week, the tabloids have now duly informed us public that "Fabregas has a big head and is hated in the Arsenal dressing room."

Funny, I have never heard anything around the Emirates to suggest such a thing. If anything, I'm pretty sure Fabregas is admired by his peers for his skill, drive, and determination to win.

But hey, if a nameless "Arsenal insider" says so, then it must be true.

I'll be honest: This isn't a whinge about how much rubbish is being written about Arsenal in the tabloids; it's a whinge about how much rubbish is written in the tabloids in general.

Any football fan can think of numerous instances involving their respective clubs.

Manchester United fans: How is Ronaldo portrayed?

As a pretty boy, a dive, a cheat, or a self-obsessed brat.

Liverpool fans: Do you remember not so long ago that Rafa Benitez was "Raving Rafa," who was also "losing the plot?"

Not so crazy now, is he?

Then, of course, the tabloids had a little laugh at Chelsea when they brought in Phil Scolari as manager. They told us Scolari was never going to be good enough for the "best league in the world".

In hindsight, I think giving a man with his immense record was worth a shot, don't you?

And what about "whinging" Wenger?

With the ever-growing influence of the internet and the tabloids' presence on webpages, it seems we are now inundated with rubbish.

I read a piece last week from Stan Collymore ; he said Cesc Fabregas is a disgrace. This is from the same Collymore who beats women and enjoys "pleasurable activities" in car parks.

The sad thing is, this type of slander is seemingly unavoidable, and the stupid little tags catch on and spread like a disease.

Silly little tabloids headings like "Arsenil," "Loserpool," "Chelski," and the myriad ridiculous puns on players' names are now spreading quicker than the plague.

What is even sadder is that some people believe the accusations and will start an argument with:

"Well, according to the Daily Mail/Sun/News of the World, Rafa is definitely cracked."

The tabloids aren't about truth and the dissection of the beautiful game. They are about sales.

I would bet that more column inches go to rumours and gossip than go to match reports.

It's sad, and what's even worse is that I can't escape it.

Curiosity did kill the cat!
