Jonathan WilliamsMar 27, 2009

It was not easy, it was not simple and it was, at times, ugly.

The Edmonton Oilers defeated the Anaheim Ducks 5-3 in a game where Dwayne Roloson, the Edmonton Goaltender, faced over 54 shots.

The referees were busier than the grinder lines as they called a large amount of penalties, many of them against the Oilers.

The Ducks almost caught the Oilers, as they made it 4-3 early in the third, but Ales Kotalik finished the game with an empty net goal.

In the first period, the Oilers start off with a bang. Dustin Penner and Fernando Pisani scored within the first two minutes.

Anaheim Coach Randy Carlyle pulled JS Giguiere for about two seconds.

The Ducks started to take the game over through a parade of penalties. The Oilers were called for seven penalties in the first period.

Later, Ducks defenseman Petteri Nokelainen took a tripping penalty. On the ensuing power play Dustin Penner got his second goal by shoveling the puck under Gigueire.

Ryan Getzlaf had a pair of goals. Getzlaf recorded a goal in the first and second periods.

The game was 2-2 early in the second.

Kyle Brodziak got the Oilers fourth goal by taking advantage of a screen in front of the net.
