Ohio State's Top Five Freshman of 2009

Nathan DunnoMar 26, 2009

Jim Tressel is at it again with another superb recruiting class and here is the Top Five freshman who will make an impact for the Buckeyes right away in 2009.

The No. 1 impact freshman is running back Jaamal Berry. Berry is an explosive, fast-paced back who will play as a freshman and help ease the loss of Chris "Beanie" Wells and help carry the workload with Daniel "Boom" Herron and Brandon Saine.

Berry, out of Miami Palmetto High School, ran an amazing 4.31 40-yard-dash. Look to see this 5'11", 185 pound freshman make an immediate name for himself, fitting in perfect during option plays with running QB Terelle Pryor.

The No. 2 impact freshman is outside linebacker Dorian Bell out of Gateway Senior High School in Monroeville, PA.

At 6'0", 200 pounds, some say Bell might not have the ideal size but quickly makes up for it with his toughness and hard hitting playmaking skills. His athleticism will help him play right away from the voids of NFL bound linebackers James Laurinaitis and Marcus Freeman. Bell will play right away and have the opportunity to showcase his skills.

The No. 3 impact freshman is wide receiver Corey Brown from Gateway Senior High School in Monroeville, PA.

Brown is a huge threat at 6'1", 180 pounds, All-State playmaker who can read defenses and has great speed and route running ability. After losing Brian Robiskie and Brian Hartline to the NFL Draft, he will be a nice fit since there are a few open spots at wide receiver.

The No. 4 impact freshman is 6'1", 175 pound corner C.J. Barnett out of Northmont Senior High School in Dayton, OH.

The heavily recruited corner also received offers from Florida, Miami (FL), Stanford, and Cincinnati.

Barnett plans to enroll early and should play right away with the loss of seniors Malcolm Jenkins and Donald Washington. Barnett brings a lot to the table and is a physical corner that is great in man and zone coverages.

The No. 5 impact player is wide receiver Duron Cater out of Saint Thomas Aquinas School in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Similar to Brown, he will help out Pryor and his pass game a lot.

At 6'3", 183 pounds Carter's height and soft hands stand out a lot, and it doesn’t hurt that he learned from his father, former OSU and NFL great Wide out Cris Carter. Carter has great ability to make tough catches, make defenders miss, and break tackles.

The Buckeyes have lost a lot of great talent to the NFL Draft but Tressel is prepared once again and cannot wait to show the NCAA what he is got in store for the 2009 season. It seems like every year Tressel doesn't rebuild he reloads.

In my mind, these five players will play right away and give Buckeye fans some excitement this season.
