Travis Kvapil's Absence at Martinsville Is a Shame
This weekend in the Goody's Fast Pain Relieve 500 at Martinsville will be without the No. 28 Yates Racing Ford and driver Travis Kvapil.
Yates Racing's No. 28 crew ceased operations; most of the crew were placed in other area's of the organization or were laid off.
Kvapil had support from Golden Corral and Farmer's Insurance Company for the first five races.
Kvapil coming off of his career best season last year finishing in the top 25 in points without sponsor's most of the year.
This season his points and teammate David Gilliand's points were swapped over to the No. 98 of Paul Menard mostly because Menard's daddy's hardware store signed as full-time sponsor for the team. The other points were giving to the struggling Hall of Fame Racing and driver Bobby Labonte.
Kvapil sits in 39th in points three point's behind Menard's No. 98 team, which hasn't fared all that well this season.
The No. 28 had a famed career with Driver's Davey Allison also Kenny Irwin Jr. and Ricky Rudd.
Kvapil has an average qualifying of 22nd and an average finish of 20th.
Most think of Kvapil without a sponsor and then think of guy's like John Andretti, Dave Blaney, which have sponsor's but less success than Kvapil.
Then there are Guys like the Bodines, Nemechecks, Copes, Longs, and other field fillers that just use a spot when guys like Riggs, Kvapil, Smith, Said, and others would actually race 500 miles instead of just going six laps before having a "handling problem."
