20 NFL Tweets That Never Really Happened, but Should Have
NFL players, coaches and even the Roger Goodell himself are now using the social media phenomena known as Twitter.
The personal interaction on an individual player between these parties and fans has opened the door for some great exchanges. Fans have never had this much access to their favorite NFL players.
Players and coaches use the tool to provide news, jokes and a personal look into their daily lives.
None of this means what really needs to be said is actually being said on Twitter, especially with the league monitoring it and fining when appropriate.
Let's take a look at some fictional, often humorous Tweets that should have happened over the course of the 2012 NFL season.
Aaron Rodgers' Reaction to MNF Debacle
1 of 20Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers lost to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 3 thanks to a controversial call from replacement officials.
Despite this, the Packers have a better record and have already secured the NFC North crown.
After ending the referee lockout, we would have loved to see Rodgers make a promise to finish better than the Seahawks.
Andy Reid Has His Sights Set on Dallas
2 of 20Andy Reid continues to call confusing games. In Week 14 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Reid allowed third-round quarterback Nick Foles to throw the ball over 50 times.
Reid is notorious for this, especially this year despite the presence of an elite running back in LeSean McCoy.
With rumors swirling that he could be headed to the Dallas Cowboys (h/t SportsNation), it is no wonder Reid calls games the way he does. He must have his sights set on greener pastures.
The Real Reason Rex Ryan Won't Play Tim Tebow
3 of 20When ESPN broke the news two years ago about Rex Ryan's foot fetish, not much was made of the issue.
But perhaps it has something to do with the New York Jets head coach's complete unwillingness to play Tim Tebow.
If only Rex Ryan had a Twitter.
Why Cam Newton Is Slumping
4 of 20Cam Newton of the Carolina Panthers has suffered from a massive sophomore slump, and it is hard to tell why.
Maybe if Newton spent less time working on his Superman pose in the offseason, we would not have to be making excuses for his poor play.
How Alex Smith Feels Right Now
5 of 20San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith lost his job to Colin Kaepernick recently, and it is worked wonders for the team as a whole.
Smith cannot be too upset either. He is receiving $7.5 million in 2013 and 2014 to hold a clipboard.
Larry Fitzgerald Wants out
6 of 20The Arizona Cardinals are one of the worst teams in football once again. Also not surprising is the fact wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald is once again one of the most dominant players in the league.
Fitzgerald is one of the all-time greats, and deserves to play for a winner. He should have taken to Twitter with drastic measures to get out of the desert.
Michael Vick Isn't Thrilled About Losing His Job
7 of 20Philadelphia Eagles quarterback lost his starting job to a third-round rookie in Nick Foles. With the way Foles has been playing, Vick's time with the Eagles is likely nearing an end.
This means Vick could be playing for another team soon, but there only a few teams with a serious quarterback need.
One of those teams is the Kansas City Chiefs.
Russell Wilson Wants His Award
8 of 20Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks won the starting quarterback job with the team this past offseason and hasn't looked back.
He is arguably having as big of an impact as Andrew Luck with the Indianapolis Colts and Robert Griffin III with the Washington Redskins.
He has got a case for Rookie of the Year, and should start a campaign on Twitter.
A.J. Green Wants to Be Recognized
9 of 20Calvin Johnson of the Detroit Lions is arguably still the best receiver in the NFL, but A.J. Green of the Cincinnati Bengals certainly is not far behind.
Green's caught 11 touchdowns and has over 1,200 receiving yards. It would be fun to watch Johnson and Green compete publicly each week.
If only we were so lucky.
Adrian Peterson Has One Thing on His Mind
10 of 20Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings has a chance at rushing for over 2,000 yards this season, as he has just over 1,800 with two games to go.
Peterson is literally the only reason the Vikings are close to sniffing the playoffs.
Quarterbacks typically win MVP, but Peterson has to be in the talks. Right?
Romeo Crennel Doesn't Know Who Jamaal Charles Is
11 of 20Kansas City Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel has no idea who Jamaal Charles is.
For those who do not know, Charles is a top five running back in the NFL when used properly. You would not know that with the way Crennel uses him this year.
In nine of a possible 14 games thus far, Charles has received less than 20 carries. Why? You would have to ask Crennel.
Andrew Luck Is a Cool Customer
12 of 20Andrew Luck had a lot to deal with after being selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft by the Indiana Colts.
Not only was he replacing one of the best ever in Peyton Manning, he was considered by many as the best to enter the league since John Elway.
With the Colts on the way to the playoffs, it looks like Luck has done just fine.
Pete Carroll Has Something to Say
13 of 20Many have criticized Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll for running up the score with his team already up big.
It is a silly thing to complain about. No lead is safe in the NFL, and it would be even more insulting if Carroll and his team were to simply apply mercy to other grown professionals.
About Thanksgiving...
14 of 20It is doubtful Jim Schwartz would ever openly say this until he is relieved of his duties as head coach (which could be happening as soon as this offseason).
Either way, one has to wonder why in the world the Detroit Lions are still allowed to play on Thanksgiving.
For a team that has had two winning season in 11 years (it will be 12 in two weeks), even Schwartz himself has to be wondering the same thing.
Jon Gruden Finally Gets a Twitter
15 of 20Jon Gruden is one of the most polarizing announcers to ever call an NFL game. Some love him, others hate him.
The host of Monday Night Football seemingly loves every player in the NFL, which is what most criticize him for.
There is no way Gruden takes this approach to not offend anyone on the chance he wants to get back into coaching.
No way.
Brandon Weeden Is in His Prime
16 of 20The Cleveland Browns selected Brandon Weeden in the first round of the 2012 NFL draft in the hopes that he could be the franchise quarterback for a long time.
Except, Weeden is already 29-years-old. He does not exactly have a lot of prime years left.
Doug Martin Needs to Get Something off His Chest
17 of 20There's a prevailing though process among the NFL draft community that running backs are not a great value in the first round anymore.
Tell that to Doug Martin and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Martin was an exceptional pick near the end of the first round and is the best offensive weapon the team has with over 1,200 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns.
Jay Cutler, the Most Interesting QB in the NFL
18 of 20Jay Cutler of the Chicago Bears is infamous for throwing temper tantrums on the sidelines and just having a horrible attitude in general.
Cutler's childish tantrums are usually directed at teammates, like when he shoved his offensive lineman J'Marcus Webb.
Roger Goodell Has a Favorite Sport
19 of 20NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has taken a lot of heat for his emphasis on player safety, which has resulted in more penalties being called that impact games.
Many critics have suggested Goodell just change the NFL into a flag football league.
Maybe they are on to something.
Roger Goodell Cares About Player Safety
20 of 20With such an emphasis on player safety, Goodell is sending mixed signals. He wants more players penalized and fined for hits, but puts the players through an excruciating schedule for the sake of money.
The best example of this is Thursday Night Football. Teams who participate on Thursday usually played a game the Sunday before, putting them at a disadvantage and serious injury risk.
But hey, NFL Network and the league are making a lot of money off the program.
