SEC Baseball Weekend Roundup (March 22-24)

Corey GautreauxMar 24, 2008

A look at this past weekend's SEC baseball action:

Vanderbilt @ Alabama:  Alabama bounced back from two midweek losses against UNO to win their first SEC weekend series of the season.  The Tide ended their six-game losing streak on Saturday, and won the rubber match on Sunday to win the series.  Vanderbilt lost its first series of the season.  The loss puts Vanderbilt alone in last place of the SEC Eastern Division.

Arkansas @ LSU:  Arkansas dropped its second straight SEC weekend series of the season.  The Tigers beat the Hogs on a walk-off homer in the 11th inning Friday night.  Arkansas bounced back from nine down to win Saturday’s game in 10 innings.  LSU won the rubber match on Sunday, leading the Tigers to their first SEC series win of the season.  Arkansas and Mississippi State are the only two teams remaining that have not won a SEC weekend series.

Florida @ Ole Miss:  Ole Miss was able to win Friday’s match-up, but the Gators bounced back to win the next two and the series. Both teams now sit alone in first place of their respective divisions.  Florida and Georgia are the only two teams that have won both of their SEC weekend series.

South Carolina @ Mississippi State:  South Carolina swept State to earn their first SEC series victory of the season, while the Bulldogs dropped their second straight SEC weekend series.  The sweep was the second sweep of the season by South Carolina, and the second time an opponent has swept the Bulldogs.  The series loss moves Mississippi State to last place in the SEC Western Division.  South Carolina is part of a four-way tie for second in the East.

Tennessee @ Georgia:  Georgia picked up its second straight SEC weekend series victory, and has now won six of their last eight games.  Tennessee prevented the sweep on Sunday to stay in the four-team tie for second place in the SEC East.

Kentucky @ Auburn:  Kentucky failed to reach 19-0 to match last year’s 19 game win streak by dropping Friday and Saturday’s games against the Auburn Tigers.  Auburn won its first SEC series of the season, and is part of a four-team tie for second in the SEC West.
