Why Aren't California Bay Area Teams Winning The Big Ones?
I was just here at work thinking about all the teams we have here in the Bay Area.
For those of you who have no clue what this area is, I will explain.
The California “Bay Area” is an area in Northern California and also goes by the name of the San Francisco Bay Area as well. It is comprised of 9 counties and has well over 7.2 million people.
The reason I bring this up is because as much as this area encompasses with cities, people, and schools, why the hell is it that we just can’t find a winning team lately?
Now before some of you go off and start bashing me for ranting about our failed seasons and that I should be happy that our NFL football teams have had successes, I am talking about the last 15 years.
Most of the pro teams like our NFL teams, NHL team, NBA team, MLB team and MSL teams as well as our college teams never seem to get over the top. And if they do, they don’t sniff the trophies again for years.
The 49ers last Super Bowl was the 1994 season, many moons ago.
The MLB Giants—well do I need to go into detail about that, really?
Our NHL team plays well until it really counts, then exits pretty much before the championship game. With the injuries etc., it looks like it may be the same again this year after a very promising start.
The NBA Warriors, although not my favorite team, had one great season although they to exited way too early. In my opinion Don Nelson was the reason they were good and now not so good.
Chew on that one a while.
Why can’t the people that live in the Bay Area experience what New Yorkers, Bostonians and others have experienced—winning teams in more than one sport in the same season.
I would love to see the Bay Area sports writers really have great things to say about the majority of our sports teams instead of the sad commentaries we are forced to read because the teams here are just pathetic.
Why is the key, or better yet, who is the key to bringing the Bay Area back from the brink of mediocrity? What team will be the turning point to bring the people of the Bay Area back to the stadiums of winning teams again?
I know that the area is looking to the San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders to again bring the swagger back in their collective walks and I hope that this year is the year that the fans are treated to some great sporting games. But in the back of my mind, I am concerned.
I’m almost afraid that again the 49ers will make key mistakes in the draft or even free agency and our beloved team will not live up to the fans expectations. Of course our expectations are always higher than the teams can sometimes deliver.
I am truly hoping that our NFL teams, more the 49ers than the Raiders, as well as our Sharks, Giants, Warriors, San Jose Spartans, Cal Bears, Stanford and Santa Clara University teams all make a giant splash in the winning pool so that our Bay Area can begin rebuilding the dynasties that we enjoyed in the 80s.
I am hopeful.
Of course I am—I am a fan.
