NBA Top 5: Announcers Will Have Plenty to Discuss

Joe WillettMar 23, 2008

The NBA has only about one month left until it explodes into the post-season with great Western Conference matchups and lackluster Eastern Conference ones.

Chances are, you are going to watch at least a few of those games on ESPN or TNT or your local station that airs NBA games.

So what are going to be some of the stories that you see announcers talking about?

DENVER NUGGETS VS GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS, NBA

Well...

1. How bad that announcer’s bracket did this year

Yes, everybody's bracket got destroyed this year. Actually, that happens every year, we don't want to hear about how yours did.

UConn going out in the first round shocked you? Two matchups between 12 and 13 seeded teams in the second round? Nobody said that was going to happen.

We know you didn't get it right, that's why you cover the NBA and not college basketball.

2. LeBron vs. Kobe MVP race

LeBron and Kobe are in a heated race for MVP, but there are other people involved.

Chris Paul and Tracy McGrady have made some interesting movements on their way to being involved in the MVP race.

Why not give them some face time, make it a little bit more even for everybody instead of just focusing on those two players.

Even when they do bad, you are talking about how good their chances are that they will win MVP.

I see enough of this in NASCAR when they talk about Dale Jr. when he is in 30th and they talk about him, I want to know what is going on up front. (Although I am a Jr. fan)

3. Barry Bonds signs with the (Insert Western Conference Powerhouse here)

Okay, so I’m 99.9 percent sure that this won't happen, but wouldn't it be hilarious?

Barry Bonds and the Warriors looking for somebody to shoot them into contention.

Bonds is unsigned and looking for a home, I know steroids don't exactly help in basketball, but he would take the contact just to get some face time.

And teams are desperate to get any sort of advantage in the West, like the Mavericks chancing their season on Jason Kidd even though I could score more than he does in a game. (And I am extremely out of shape)

Just wait for it, there will be some interest.

4. The Boston Celtics

Continue the love-fest, ESPN.

Everyday I get to know what is going on for the Celtics, even though they are supposed to give equal face time to every team, I rarely see my lowly Bulls on SportsCenter unless that night's loss was to the Celtics.

We all know that the Big Three/Three Amigos/Boston Three Party are an amazing trio, but I don't need to hear about it every single night. Give it a rest.

5. Up Next, SportsCenter

I realize that this is hypocritical because I watch SportsCenter almost every day for my sports information, but I don't need to know about it every five minutes.

It's gotten to a point where either fans know that making a sign that says this will get them on TV, or they are giving fans these signs as promo tools. (I think it started as the later and then became a mix of both.)

And the announcers make sure that, in case you're blind, you know that whenever there is a sign or graphic  announcement, they also say that SportsCenter is after the game.

These things get into my head, and I hate hearing about them every time I turn on a basketball game. (Except No. 3, that would just be awesome)

So that's it for this article, now, it's time for SportsCenter.
