Sean Deveney Fails Again: Wade is an MVP Candidate

Steven ResnickMar 14, 2009

Sean Deveney fails again in his latest work titled "Awards Watch: Wade For MVP Don't Think So. Yes, Wade more than likely will not win the MVP this year, but at number four is just another example of how out of touch Deveney is with reality.

He uses the excuse of the hypothetical excuse what happens if you take Wade off of the Miami Heat? Well how many wins did the Heat have last year? 15 wins! It's already been shown what Wade means to the Heat.

Yes, Deveney it's nice to point out the last time a MVP won a MVP below with a team winning less than 50 games was won by Moses Malone in 1982.

Then Deveney goes onto talk about teams like the Houston Rockets without Tracy McGrady how he felt they were going to suffer without him. Deveney, have you not been paying attention? McGrady has missed a ton of time and the Rockets have still managed to do well without him and is more than likely why McGrady won't be a Rocket next year.

The the mentioning of Kevin Durant and how the Oklahoma City have gone 5-2 without Durant. The problem is no one is arguing the merits of Durant as a MVP winner because there's no way the Thunder make the playoffs. Part of the MVP process is if the team actually makes the playoffs.

The same argument applies to Al Jefferson who is out for the rest of the year. The Timberwolves were not going to the playoffs this year either. The Heart are!

According to the article the Heat are projected to win 45 games and to win 50 games the Heat need to go 15-3. So, even with that the Heat with Wade back won 30 more games then they did all of last year. Tell me Deveney does that not state how valuable Wade is to the team?

Wade will finish up either number one or two in the MVP voting. Unlike the list of Deveney who has this:

1. Lebron James

3. Dwight Howard

4. Dwyane Wade

5. Tim Duncan

I know Tim Duncan is a solid performer year in and year out but is he having a MVP type season? No.

The actual voting should either be this one:

1. Dwyane Wade

2. Lebron James

3. Chris Paul

4. Kobe Bryant

5. Brandon Roy

Or this one.

1. Lebron James

2. Dwayne Wade

3. Chris Paul

4. Kobe Bryant

5. Brandon Roy

Right now it would be option one. Not only that because of his performances as of late including tonight's game where he scored 50 points, grabbed 10 boards, nine assists, four steals, and two blocked shots.

Also look what Wade did against Boston he nailed a three pointer with less than a minute remaining, and that three sealed the victory for the Heat.

If Wade contiues to put up numbers like he is doing (which as of March 11th are: 30.0 points per game, 7.7 assists, 5.1 rebounds, 2.3 steals, and 1.4 blocks) he is definitely going to be either number one or number two as a MVP candidate. There's no way he's any lower.
