You Decide: LeBron "Blocks" Richardson's 360, Fair or Foul?
We’ve all undoubtedly seen LeBron James’s “block” of Jason Richardson’s 360 dunk attempt by now.
Just in case you haven’t seen it yet…
Before any debate can take place, two things must be conceded here: J-Rich is an athletic freak, but LeBron is freakier.
The fact that Richardson is a two-time slam dunk champion makes the play by King James even more impressive…or does it?
Richardson slowed down to get the crowd out of their seats, and LeBron clearly smacked him on the wrists. In fact, it appears that LeBron barely even touched the basketball at all, hitting only J-Rich's wrists.
In his postgame interview with Craig Sager, LeBron was asked about the block. He gave the standard “I just didn’t give up on the play” response, and went the extra mile to point out that his block was “all ball.”
All ball? How about all bull?
Having said that, one could argue that Richardson was showboating (while I would contend he was merely entertaining the home town fans), in which case, a referee might be more inclined to let some contact go. That and the fact that it was LeBron James.
Regardless, nobody, except LeBron, would argue that the block was clean. Few would argue that it was a foul. Therefore, I won’t ask you if it was clean, but rather, was it fair? Fair considering the circumstances: LeBron James, a two-time NBA Slam Dunk champ, and a 360 dunk.
You make the call: Fair or foul?
