Jagr Would Pay To Return to NHL from KHL Next Year

It looks like Jaromir Jagr would pay to return to the NHL from the KHL next year for the Edmonton Oilers, possibly with his former coach, Tom Renney, behind the bench.

According to a story posted on thefourthperiod.com, it appears veteran forward, Jaromir Jagr, is intent on returning to the NHL next season.

Jagr, 37, signed a two-year deal with Avangard Omsk of the Russian KHL in the off-season and remains obligating to the club next year.

However, Jagr is currently negotiating out of his contract with Omsk.

Jagr, who has accumulated, 646 goals and 1,599-points in 1,273 career NHL regular-season games, played for Omsk during the NHL lockout.

Jagr staggered into the play-Offs With Omsk, not the New York Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins or Edmonton Oilers.

I hear Jaromir Jagr would defect from the KHL to the NHL at the drop of a ruble.

Jagr asked for prepayment of his salary during the lockout year. Alex Kovalev confirmed this fact in a recent interview with Sovetsky Sport.

It that is the case, Jagr would need to reimburse the club in order to get out of his contract.

It was widely speculated that Jagr would end up signing with the Oilers for next season.

According to the New York Post, Jaromir Jagr is trying to get out of the last year of his contract with Omsk of the KHL to sign with the Edmonton Oilers.

The Post claims Jagr had been trying to negotiate a way out of his current contract and the Oilers would have paid Jagr upwards of $7 million for next season, however, plans were derailed after Omsk squeaked into the playoffs, preventing Jagr from signing with Edmonton prior to the trade deadline.

The Post reports Jagr is expected to leave the KHL for the NHL next season, upon which he's expected to join the Oilers.

In 55 regular-season games with Omsk, Jagr scored 25 goals and added 28 assists for 53-points.

The Post also claims the Oilers might consider replacing head coach Craig MacTavish with Jagr's former coach with the Rangers, Tom Renney.

Renney recently told The Post he regretted getting Rangers GM Glen Sather to re-sign Jagr at the end of last season.
