Florida vs. Georgia: Final Report Card, Player Grades for the Bulldogs

Brian JonesJun 7, 2018

Georgia pulls off a major upset as they take down No. 2 Florida 17-9. The Bulldogs improve to 7-1 while the Gators drop to 7-1. The win for the Bulldogs also puts them in the drivers seat for the SEC East title. All they have to do is beat Ole Miss an Auburn and they will be back at the Georgia Dome in December.

Let's take a look a the Bulldogs' final postgame grades and evaluations.

Quarterback: C

1 of 10

Aaron Murray's numbers were ugly. He threw for 150 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions.

But when he needed to make a play, he did just that with a TD pass to Malcolm Mitchell in the fourth quarter. His confidence was shaken at the start of the game, but was able to make the throws he needed to as the game progressed.

Now he has to have two bounce-back games the next two weeks so the Bulldogs can secure the SEC East title.

Running Backs: B

2 of 10

Todd Gurley had a solid game after two games where he could not get anything going. He finished the game with 118 yards on 27 carries and scored the Bulldogs first touchdown in the first quarter.

Keith Marshall did not see too much action with only four carries for four yards.

The coaches knew the running game would be tough sledding against the Gators, but they kept at it and Gurley was able to have a strong start and a stronger finish.

Wide Receivers: B-

3 of 10

Malcolm Mitchell is starring to become the player that he was last year after spending the first half of the season on defense. He caught five passes for 74 yards and scored a touchdown late in the game to put the game away for the Bulldogs.

Marlon Brown had two catches for 30 yards and Tavarres King had zero receptions.

Because of the play of Murray, the wide receivers could never get going. But Mitchell was a hero in the game and his TD catch will be another memorable moment in the Georgia-Florida series.

Tight Ends: C-

4 of 10

Arthur Lynch and Jay Rome did not have any catches, but were strong in run and pass protection.

Lynch dropped a first down pass in the third quarter and Rome was open a few times in the first half, but Murray never saw him.

Not a good day for the tight ends from a receiving standpoint, but they have been consistent in blocking.

Offensive Line: B

5 of 10

The offensive line did not allow Murray to get sacked all game long and they opened some holes for Gurley. That's always the goal for the O-line and it will something they will strive for the rest of the season.

The only reason they did not get an "A" is they fact the offense scored only 17 points. But after the beating they took from South Carolina, the offensive line had improve greatly and because of that the offense should have big games against Ole Miss and Auburn.

Defensive Line: A

6 of 10

This was by far the best game the defensive line has played all season.

John Jenkins, Kwame Geathers, Garrison Smith and Cornelius Washington all made plays in the backfield which is the reason why the Gators could never get anything going on offense.

Losing Abry Jones does hurt, but this game showed that the Bulldogs have enough talent on the defensive line to fill a void. Let's hope they can build on that as they finish their SEC schedule.

Linebackers: A+

7 of 10

Because of the play of the defensive line, the linebackers were all over the field, especially Jarvis Jones, who will be in Jeff Driskel's dreams the rest of the season.

Jones led the Dawgs with 13 tackles three sacks one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries. Alec Ogletree, Michael Gilliard, Amarlo Herrera and Jordan Jenkins also made plays for the unit.

This game is what fans have been waiting for all year long. This group have not played the best football all year, but when it mattered the most, they were on top of their game.

Secondary: A

8 of 10

And because the front seven was making plays, it was easier for the secondary to make plays all over the field.

Damian Swann had a forced fumble and interception, Bacarri Rambo had an pick in the endzone at the end of the first half, Sanders Commings recovered a fumble late in the fourth quarter to secure the win and Shawn Williams backed up his statements as he notched six tackles.

If the front seven plays well, the secondary will be effective. And when the secondary is making plays, this defense is a force.

Special Teams: B

9 of 10

The special teams did not have game changing plays, but they did not give up any big plays, which is the most important thing for the Bulldogs. Marshall Morgan did miss a FG, but made his extra points, which made a difference in this game.

Special teams almost killed the Bulldogs in this game last year, which is why it was important for the Bulldogs to maintain their lanes on kickoff and punts. They were able to do that this year and along with the play or Morgan as well as punter Colin Barber, it was a solid day for the special teams.

Coaching: B+

10 of 10

It was not a pretty game and it was not a clean game, but the coaching staff stuck to the gameplan, which led to a Bulldogs win. Mike Bobo had Murray make plays with his arm at the end of the game, Todd Grantham did a good job keeping his unit active all game long and Mark Richt made sure his players stayed focused.

The coaches were consistent throughout the game and they have to continue that trend the next two games in order to play in the Georgia Dome in December.
