Kalley Armstrong's 3-Point Night Helps Harvard Defeat McGill by 4-1 Tally
An Oct. 20 exhibition match in Cambridge, Mass., between the Harvard Crimson and McGill Martlets saw Jillian Dempsey and Kalley Armstrong make key contributions in a 4-1 win.
Without Melodie Daoust, the Martlets were overwhelmed; not one player had a positive plus/minus rating.
The first period saw Kalley Armstrong contribute the first of three assists for Harvard. Less than one minute into the game, Armstrong connected with Dempsey for the first score of the contest.
Gabrielle Davidson and Katie Clement-Heydra were both called for penalties in the final five minutes of the first.
Despite a valiant effort by McGill to prevent Harvard from scoring on the power play, the second period saw the Crimson add to their lead.
Armstrong and Dempsey connected for the second time when Dempsey placed the puck past Taylor Salisbury to extend the Crimson’s lead.
The 8:53 mark of the second saw Kaitlin Spurling and Michelle Picard assist on Samantha Reber’s marker.
With a little over eight minutes left in the period, freshman backstop Emerance Maschmeyer stood between the pipes for Harvard.
The 3:19 mark of the final stanza saw Logan Murray get on the scoresheet for the Martlets. Despite the lead being reduced to a 3-1 tally, the Martlets could not gain momentum.
Harvard was called for five penalties throughout the period, including three in the final five minutes.
Maschmeyer remained solid in net for the Crimson and was the difference in preserving the lead.
Miye D’Oench would score the final goal of the contest for Harvard as the Crimson prevailed by a 4-1 score.
Taylor Salisbury took the loss for the Martlets.
