Boston Bruins: Latest News and Notes on Their College and Junior Prospects

Al DanielJun 7, 2018

In last Thursday night’s Ontario Hockey League action, four Boston Bruins prospects made a tangible contribution to a winning cause for their respective teams.

Dougie Hamilton slugged home an overtime goal for the Niagara Ice Dogs. Malcolm Subban repelled 27 shots to bolster a Belleville Bulls victory. Both Anthony Camara and Cody Payne assisted on the icebreaker and set a positive pace for the Barrie Colts and Plymouth Whalers, respectively.

One game after one of his scoring streaks was halted, Camara started anew. He had a hand in each of the Colts’ first four goals Thursday, effectively deciding a 7-3 home win over the Ottawa 67s. From there, he pitched in on two of the Colts three goals over a span of consecutive losses, although one was technically a regulation tie.

In a rare instance of three consecutive game nights, Seth Griffith of the London Knights saw his six-game scoring streak snapped Sunday. That, however, was not before he chipped in an assist versus Erie on Friday and in a 3-2 shootout win over Camara’s Colts on Saturday.

Like Griffith in London, Payne is now Plymouth’s top goal-getter after cramming six points into a span of three games and four nights. His three-point performance fueled an 8-3 cruise over the Kingston Frontenacs on Friday before his two goals spelled the difference in Sunday’s 4-2 triumph at Oshawa.

Similarly, Hamilton assisted on both the equalizer and the eventual winner as his Ice Dogs deleted a 2-0 deficit en route to a 4-2 vanquishing of Kingston.

One other budding Bruin’s personal hot streak cooled off when Subban lost in regulation for the first time this calendar month. He conceded a goal in each period to relinquish a tough 3-2 decision to Sudbury.

South of the border, Brian Ferlin accrued a goal and a plus-two rating over a pair of exhibition victories for the Cornell Big Red. Alexander Fallstrom nabbed a secondary assist on Harvard’s icebreaker Saturday en route to 5-1 preseason triumph over McGill.

Matthew Grzelcyk of Boston University, Ben Sexton of Clarkson and Colton Hargrove of Western Michigan each suited up for one game over their team’s respective weekend slates. Only Hargrove’s Broncos made any additions to their win column.

The Dubuque Fighting Saints are one of two USHL teams with a perfect record and one of three unbeaten teams while defenseman Matthew Benning is tied for the team lead with a plus-eight rating on the year in the wake of a weekend sweep of Green Bay.
