The WAC's Boise State Broncos New Motto: "One Point" Is Not That Close
On March sixth Boise Statecoach Chris Petersen chatted with Chris Childers on Rivals Radio about spring football practice.
The conversation was basic covering last year’s grads Ian Johnson and company, discussing the invaluableness of those players.
But moreover, the discussion branched towards this coming season with the team’s changes such as Doug Martin going to Defense (playing Ellis’s nickel safety position) and the upcoming Monday practice.
As for the slogan for the year, it’s not about taking back the WAC, as was the case the prior year.
It’s about losing by one point to another team who on that day and for most of the game played better Boise State.
Still BSU had their chances to win the game and more than just one or two. So when considering the slogan, bank on it, it will be “One Point.” Because one point is not a relatively close thing or minor issue, it can be huge.
When one thinks about one point this season maybe the difference will be looking for Pettis and/or Young in the end zone, something for what ever reason did not happen at the Poinsettia.
Maybe "One Point" will be some play that no one has used in seventy years and is executed perfectly. Maybe it will be just executing with heart and laying it all on the line, as if one was playing to “win one for the Gipper.”
Look for the Broncos to play with fervor, kind of like Kyle Gingg a relentless style all season long.
So this season Boise State will be closing the gap on mistakes. Look for the Broncos to be exceptional. Moore will be slipping under center more often making the running game an easier task.
Moore will also drop back in the pocket more often and be free this season to go long if he sees it regardless of the plays which are called.
If the upcoming 2009 season is played with the passion of its first Bronco practice all will be well this year. Mondays practice was exceptional for junior wide outs Titus Young and Austin Pettis.
Austin looked very good and Titus was awesome. Should these practice sessions continue with this feel, the opener with the depleted Ducks might not be so close?
On defense BSU will be working the 4 2 5 a lot, as they also had done last season. The Broncos are not merely practicing; they are preparing themselves for victory.
Boise State will be more than ready this fall. It is not about beating the Ducks, or taking back the WAC, the Broncos are on a mission. Look for that mission to eventually launch Boise State into a national title game in the very near future.
