Why Blame It On The Sri Lankan Cricket Board?
Maybe I am a bit late on this article but still I think it is important that this piece was written.
Recently we had a terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team.
A very sad incident indeed.
It angered me as much as it angered any one.
Forget about the fact that cricketers were hurt, but the very fact that a certain group of people were guaranteed security against the terrorists but were not given an adequate amount of people to protect them angers me.
But what angers me more is the fact the the Sri Lankan board is being held responsible about this whole incident.
Mahela Jayawardane came out and spoke against the officials of Sri Lanka who decided to go on with the tour but that is understandable as he is suffering from the post attack trauma.
But it is the media which is really showing the board as the villains. Recently I saw a journalist interviewing Gamini Laukughe, the Sri Lankan board President and almost trying to force it out of him that the board did not do the right thing by sending the team to Pakistan.
I agree that the team should not have been sent but it was a friendly gesture and a respect to the spirit of the game.
Sooner than later someone would have sent their team to Pakistan when the situation would have eased out a bit more. What would have been said then?
What is Mr. Laukughe to say in such a situation? He cannot just say that the board or the government is responsible therefore he has to play the blame game. And the blame game will lead to further conflict.
If the tour would have gone on fine people would have praised this move but as this did not happen we see the opposite happening.
If it is anyone's fault it has to be of the people looking after the security in Pakistan.
In today's world where the media is so powerful, I would like to ask them
Don't great responsibilities come with great power?
Wouldn't you have praised the SLC if things had gone on fine?
And most of all, isn't it important that you try to keep people of the wold together to fight terrorism than play these small blame games and increase conflict?
