The Incredible Dwyane Wade!

David AlenMar 9, 2009

I live in Miami, FL so I get to watch a ton of Miami Heat games on Sun Sports (when I'm not at the arena of course), which is the Florida equivalent to FSN. Heat play-by-play announcer Eric Reid loves to say "You always have a chance with Dwyane Wade on the floor."

Boy, is he ever right.

On nights like Monday night's epic battle with the Bulls, Heat fans always leave the arena feeling like they got their money's worth.

Lets look at the numbers. Wade finished with 48 points, 12 assists, 6 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 blocks against the Bulls. That is just a typical night for Wade. Looking even deeper you will see the impact he had on this game. Wade had 42 points at the end of regulation, meaning he only had six of the 26 points scored by the Heat in the overtimes.

Might not seem like much but Wade had only 7 assists entering the overtimes. So he had 5 assists in the extra frames, and using common math, that means D-Wade had a hand on 16 of a possible 26 points. That is not accounting that some of those assists might have been for three-pointers or three-point plays. So it is possible Wade had a hand in all the scoring in the overtimes.

Monday night's game against the Bulls was really just another day in the office for Dwyane Wade. So far in the month of March no one—and I mean no one—is playing better than him.

In five games this month Dwyane Wade is averaging 38.2 ppg, shooting 56% from the field, handing out over 11 assists, and getting 3 steals a game. Oh, and his three-point shooting is improving game to game; he went five of six from the three-point stripe against Chicago on Monday night.

Wade is basically on an unholy run on defenders in the NBA. Wade has shot better than 50% from the field in 10 of his last 11 games.

Although his offensive game is sending shivers down the spine of every NBA coach in the league, it has been his defense that has made this season his best yet. Wade is second in the league in steals at 2.2 a game behind Chris Paul.

He has also improved his shot blocking and he is 22nd in the league, that might not seem impressive, but if you delve deeper into the rankings you will see that he is the only pure guard in the NBA that is even in the top 50 in that category—Granger plays the three as well as the two so he doesn't count; the next guard is Jason Kidd who is ranked 70th in blocks, while LeBron is 29th.

Basically Dwyane Wade is a cold-blooded killer with or without the ball. The fact that this guy is a distant third in MVP talk is just mind-bottling—yes editors, I said bottling—and a down right outrage.

The Heat thus far have made an 18-game improvement from last year's 15-67 record and all 18 have come on the back of Dwyane Wade.

He is the real MVP regardless of what anyone says. Yes, LeBron and Kobe are great, but they pale in comparison to The Incredible Dwyane Wade.

Comments and disagreements are welcome. Hey I went 4-2 in my very first Rock Hard NBA Locks. Check back later for Tuesday's Rock Hard NBA Locks.
