What a Super Bowl Victory In 2010 Would Mean for the Pittsburgh Steelers

I need to start off by saying, this is not a prediction. I am not putting the cart before the horse. I am not saying that this is going to happen.

I am only saying that it is a possibility, and the ramifications around the NFL would be intense.

For starters, the reasons I am saying this is a possibility:

The Steelers are returning almost the entire starting defense. The same D that was No. 1 in the league overall, No. 1 against the pass, and by less than a yard a game, the No. 2 against the run.

The 2008 Steelers played the hardest schedule for any Super Bowl Champion since the 1979 Steelers—and they still ended up on top.

In 2009, instead of playing the AFC South, (Titans, Colts, Jaguars, and Texans), the Steelers will be playing the AFC West, whose division winner went 8-8 last year (Chargers, Broncos, Chiefs, and Raiders).

Instead of playing the NFC East (Giants, Eagles, Cowboys, and Redskins), the Steelers will play the NFC North (Bears, Vikings, Packers, and Lions).

The Steelers will also be playing the division winners, Tennessee and Miami, while the Ravens will be playing the Colts and Patriots. Good luck with that Ravens.

Those are the main reasons why I believe the Steelers can re-peat. 

The ramifications?

Super Bowl number seven would mean that Pittsburgh is now two Super Bowls over the Cowboys and 49ers.

I can hear the Cowboy faithfuls stomachs turning as we speak.

It would mean that in the new millennium, the Steelers would be tied with the New England Patriots for most Super Bowl victories—three.

The argument for team of the decade would be a very heated debate.

Patriots fans will argue that they went to four Super Bowls.

Steelers fans would say, "yeah, but you lost one."

Patriots fans would say, "well, we went 16-0 in the regular season." 

Dolphins fans would say, "so, that still is not perfect."

Patriots fans will say, "we beat you twice in the AFC Championship games to win those Super Bowls." 

Many people around the league (Joey Porter especially) would say that if you have to cheat to win, you really weren't that good.

Not only that, but Steeler Nation would no longer be arguing that Big Ben Roethlisberger was not only elite, but would be saying that he is guaranteed membership into the Hall of Fame. 

Kind of hard to argue with three Super Bowl rings by the age of 28.

Cowboys fans would be saying that Tony Romo is still better.

I know that Super Bowl XLIV is 11 months away, but if the Pittsburgh Steelers are once again hoisting the Lombardi Trophy, the arguments are going to be un-ending.

To that I have only one comment...
